Princess Platinum was the princess of the Unicorn Kingdom, the founder of the failed settlement of Unicornia and among the Founders of Equestria.
History
Life
Platinum was born in the Unicorn Kingdom and was the only known child of King Bullion. Her life was contemporaneous with Starswirl the Bearded, as her assistant, Clover the Clever, was friends with the elder. She was born in the Pre-Equestrian age and served as one of the monarchs for her kingdom during the Long Winter period. As food supplies were growing lower, she attended the Summit of the three tribes to perhaps barter for food and strengthen relations between the kingdoms, but she soon refused to negotiate any deals with her fellow ponies and instead ventured off into the great unknown (roughly the Canterlot Valley region), though made Clover the Clever carry her as she refused to walk more than five minutes.
She eventually came across paradise and founded the settlement of Unicornia, but alas, the land was settled by Commander Hurricane and Chancellor Puddinghead at the same time. As an argument broke out, the winter began to find its way into paradise as well. The founders and their assistants found refuge in the cold and desolate cave where they once again began to draw borders and found kingdoms and began to bicker even more. Platinum and the other rulers began to freeze over, but their assistants were free from such a fate and instead became friends. Eventually, the warm of their love for one another melted the ice around the rulers, and together, the three rulers founded a kingdom together, known as Equestria.
Despite this agreement, Platinum was less than pleased when Starswirl proposed that the Two Sisters become monarchs of the new land, and expressed her feelings while visiting the Castle of Two Sisters with her father. Despite assurances to the contrary, Platinum seemed to view the pair as usurpers, rather than guardians of the now allied realms and their various rulers. Indeed, she felt offended that the two Alicorns had been chosen as Princesses of Equestria instead of her. She also made a point of calling out their lacking Cutie Marks, despite the fact that the pair were already centuries older than she was.
Princess Luna, her own ire aroused by Platinum’s attitude, decided to respond in kind. She called upon Melvin, a friendly Manticore, who terrified Platinum by his appearance. Platinum soon regained her dignity, and gleefully accepted the chance to sit upon Luna’s throne-only to be dropped down the secret passage underneath it. However, Luna realized she had taken matters too far, while Platinum came to see how badly she herself had been behaving. The two apologized to one another, and became friends, with Platinum providing fine tapestries for the castle and even designing the new Equestrian seal.
Later, Princess Platinum sacrificed her magic to enable her fellow Unicorns to move the Sun and Moon, only for the magic of all adult Unicorns to be depleted. Fortunately, the Two Sisters discovered their destinies and were able not only to take over this duty, but restore the magic of the Unicorns. Platinum was also pleased to see Luna receive her Cutie Mark at last.
Legacy
As the Founding of Equestria was a play that was performed in towns all across Equestria, the role of Platinum was perhaps played by thousands, if not millions, of ponies over the years. In the Era of Harmony Canterlot production, she was played by Rarity.
Personality
Much of Platinum's true personality has not truly been revealed, but in the play adaptions of her life, she was portrayed as very needy, very selfish and woefully out of touch with her subjects. Like the other urlers, she was a good pony deep down and when she saw the warm of Clover the Clever and the others, she began to soften up.
