"Grogar" was a guise taken on by Discord, based upon an ancient tyrant of the same name.

History

After the Royal Sisters made their retirement known to the Mane Six, Discord decided that Twilight Sparkle needed something to boost her confidence in her ability to serve as ruler of Equestria. In the guise of Grogar, he summoned several of the greatest villains of Equestria-Sombra, Tirek, Queen Chrysalis and Cozy Glow-to his lair. "Grogar" saw merit in the unity and friendship within their forces, how they always worked together, and how where one pony was weak, another was strong and vice-versa. His comrades didn't see such merits however, especially Sombra who didn't want to rule Equestria as a group. "Grogar" banished Sombra and saw his rise and fall and eventual death at the hands of the Elements of Harmony, which struck fear into his associates, who began to fear "Grogar" far more than they did prior.

"Grogar" set his sights on recovering the Bewitching Bell, but was distracted by his bickering "allies", whom he eventually ordered to learn cooperation while he departed on a mission of his own. Upon arriving, he discovered that they had failed to form a bond, and angrily reprimanded them and subdued them with his magic. Struck by inspiration, he ordered the trio to travel to Mount Everhoof, where he had discovered his bell hidden and magically protected. When the group returned apparently without the bell, "Grogar" was enraged but pleased that they had become united, though in truth the trio were planning a doublecross.

Believing the Bewitching Bell lost, "Grogar" set out to locate a different means of defeating the Mane Six, unaware that his allies were seeking to unlock the power of the bell for themselves. After reporting that he had successfully located what the sought, he made plans to recover it, not knowing that the three had stolen a book they believe would allow them to harness the magic of the bell. Upon returning with an unknown amulet, "Grogar" was attacked by his treacherous underlings, who used the Bewitching Bell to drain his magic. This caused him to revert to his true form of Discord, who fled and then explained his deception to the Mane Six and the Royal Sisters. He also revealed that the Legion of Doom had gained possession of all the magic of the true Grogar, which was contained within the Bewitching Bell.

Personality

While impersonating Grogar, Discord adopted a domineering but logical personality, exhorting his fellow villains to work together in order to achieve their common purpose. However, he made it clear that he was in charge, and didn't hesitate to employ his magic against the other villains in order to halt their bickering.

Abilities and traits

While posing as Grogar, Discord demonstrated a number of incredible feats, such as bringing King Sombra back from the dead, freeing Cozy Glow and Tirek from Tartarus, giving Tirek enough magic to regain a more youthful and muscular state, summoning four villains to his lair, and then transporting Sombra from there to the Crystal Empire.
