Gilda is a Griffon from Griffonstone and one of Rainbow Dash's friends.
History
Gilda hails from Griffonstone on the Griffon continent, east of Greater Equestria. She became friends with Rainbow Dash at some point in her youth and the two enjoyed pranking others.
One day, Griffon came to Ponyville to hang out with Rainbow Dash, but her trip was interrupted when Pinkie Pie tried to befriend her too. Gilda continuously bullied Pinkie Pie until Rainbow Dash finally saw the extent of her meanness and the two broke off their friendship.[1] Because of this, Gilda grew bitter and lonely back in her hometown of Griffonstone where she had no friends. She tried to deny that she still cared about Rainbow Dash, but when Rainbow Dash's life was in danger, she sprung to help her.[2] At some point, she had a daughter and worked as a diplomat.[3]
Personality
Gilda is abrasive, rude, generally unfriendly and often times gives off an unpleasant, burnt-out demeanor to others. She loves playing pranks on others, but not in a good-natured and playful sense like Rainbow Dash or Pinkie Pie do, but in a more mean-spirited and cruel way. Gilda was a flying enthusiast, like Dash, and attended flight shows to view the spectacle. After her estrangement with Dash, Gilda became anti-social, and yet desperately competed for social attention from her fellow griffons in Griffonstone, who scoffed at her.
Her anti-social persona was just that, a facade which hid the more sensitive and caring side of her personality. Gilda truly does care for those few who could tolerate her rough exterior enough to become friends and after Pinkie Pie risked her life to save hers, Gilda became kinder and more outwardly friendly.
Relatives
In the magazine story, "The Voice of Reason", it was revealed Gilda had a daughter.
