The Canterlot Valley is a vast region that makes up the Canterlot forest, Canterlot river and major landmarks such as Canterlot Mountain and, well, Canterlot itself.
The valley overlooks the Great Valley River, a major, continent-stretching river that connects several major cities in Equestria, such as Canterlot, Ponyville, Fillydelphia and Applewood, as well as others. Ponyville was founded within the river, when Princess Celestia showed Ma and Pa Apple free-land they could settle their homestead upon, creating Sweet Apple Acres, which, with the help of Stinkin' Rich's shop, helped turn the small community into a genuine city.
