Twilight appeared as a rather morose and Eeyore-like Pony in ''[[The Transformers vs G.I. Joe]]''. She was noticeably more plump and round, appearing almost more like a hippo then a pony and her expression was glum and lifeless. Although the narration seems to imply the ponies of her dimension where intelligent and had access to science, albeit magical science, she and her fellow ponies appeared to be rather simple minded and bestial, not the humane, scholarly personality Twilight is known for in her home dimension. Queen[1] Twilight Sparkle was the Element of Magic and last known monarch of Equestria, serving as the queen after the Retirement of Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. Before her reign as the matriarch of the country, she worked as the Princess of Friendship, and before that, she was a humble librarian at Golden Oak Library. Born in the capital city of Canterlot, Twilight was the youngest child and only daughter. Early in her life, she enrolled at Princess Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns where she was taught as Celestia's own pupil.

History

Foalhood

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!

Twilight Sparkle was born in Canterlot[2] and grew up in a household with her parents Twilight Velvet, Night Light and her older brother, Shining Armor.[3] After the Summer Sun Celebration, Twilight grew enamored with Princess Celestia and studied hard to become a student at Princess Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns. Though she didn't initially past, due to the boost by the Sonic Rainboom, she managed to gain a surge of magic and hatched Spike from his egg and became the official protege of Princess Celestia at the school.[4]

Spike eventually went to live with Twilight at her house and would often join her and Shining Armor as they compete for the title of "Sibling Supreme", which Shining Armor ultimately won from them.[3] She was often babysat by Princess Cadance and the two grew to love each other like family[5] and did many activities together like making macaroni art pieces, which Spike apparently never appreciated.[6]

Teenage and young adult life

Best Book Borrower!

Twilight spent her days at Princess Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns, often studying and sometimes hanging out with others. Although characterized as the girl who thought studying was more important than friendship, she actually did manage to accumulate a decent amount of good and caring friends in her life. At her school, she became great friends with Twinkleshine, Minuette and Moon Dancer and to some extent knew Lyra Heartstrings, although they were sometimes annoyed by her constantly studying attitude, they accepted it as a part of who she was.[7] Another friend Twilight had during this time was the kindly old librarian Dusty Pages, who invited Twilight over for tea from time to time.[6]

On the day Twilight left for Ponyville, she forgot to return her copy of Perfection: The Impossible Pursuit, which eventually caused Dusty Pages to retire from her life as a librarian and become a musician instead at Silver Stable Community, something Twilight would later greatly regret, believing she got her fired.[6] during the same day, she forgot to visit Moon Dancer's party, which caused the already insecure unicorn to become a shut in, rarely leaving her house.[7]

Librarian of Ponyville

Twilight often did public speeches during her days in Ponyville

After moving to Ponyville, Twilight became the librarian of Golden Oak Library, along with her ever-faithful little brother, Spike. Together with her friends, Twilight participated in many events within Ponyville, such as the Running of the Leaves, Iron Pony Competition, and Nightmare Night while also helping as an organizer for community events such as a talent show and the Winter Wrap Up.

Twilight quickly and naturally established herself was an important figure of Ponyville society, working as a public speaker to give important speeches in town square, organizing town meetings to warn her citizens of dangers encroaching the town, or organizing local festivals and events, such as the Welcome Princess Celestia celebration. Twilight in these situations either went at a perfectly slow, yet methodical and happy pace, or desperately tried to do something as well as possible, often failing at it in the process, but also striving to improve upon herself and her abilities.

Twilight developed many meaningful relationships during this period of her life. Her first unusual friend not among the friends she made in her first adventure was arguably the kind and mature zebra, Zecora. Though Twilight initially believed Zecora to be an evil-doer who cursed her and her friends and kidnapped Apple Bloom, she quickly learned that Zecora was a friendly and compassionate, if slightly odd, individual who quickly forgave her for her wrong-doings and the two developed a minor student-teacher relationship, with Twilight admiring Zecora and her abilities.

Twilight encounters Trixie

Another notable relationship was fellow unicorn Trixie Lulamoon, a deeply insecure and vain unicorn who performed at live magic shows displaying her impressive magic abilities, wowing audiences and scoring fans. Twilight and the rest of the Mane Six saw through her act almost instantly, but Twilight refused to act, fearing her friends who grow to dislike her as they disliked Trixie, but after Twilight saved Ponyville from an Ursa Minor, something Trixie actively fled from trying, her fears were shown to be unfounded and her friends loved her even more.

Twilight's next, and final antagonistic, confrontation with Trixie happened about a year later when the unicorn, now empowered by the Alicorn Amulet, came back to Ponyville to enact her revenge and banished Twilight from the town. Devastated, but eager to save the day, Twilight trained with Zecora in the Everfree Forest to defeat her with guile. Twilight managed to defeat Trixie for a second time and this time, Trixie saw the error of her ways and the two became friends.

Twilight would also become a close figure to members of the Apple family and Belle family, becoming a mentor and big-sister figure to the Cutie Mark Crusaders and a close friend of Big McIntosh. Despite her many friendships however, she more-or-less only truly spent time with her fellow Elements of Harmony, her own family, and the Crusaders.

Unarguably, the biggest and most important adventures Twilight went on during this period of her life were stopping Queen Chrysalis and King Sombra from taking over Canterlot and the Crystal Empire respectively. With the help of her good friends and her siblings, Shining Armor and Princess Cadance, she managed to beat back both villains and restore peace in the locations they attacked and more importantly, stopped them from spreading their evil presence to the rest of Equestria.

Princess of Friendship

Queen of Equestria

And I used to wonder, what friendship could be...

Twilight's final day in Ponyville was a day of great sadness for her. The fear of moving away from her friends and anxiety of losing them in the process made an already difficult situation for Twilight much harder as she prepared for her coronation and packed up to move to Canterlot. However, with the aid of her friends, she managed to overcome her fears and performed the coronation, officially becoming the Queen of Equestria.

Much of Twilight's life after her second and final coronation was unclear, but she ruled Equestria as a graceful, majestic and kind ruler. Much like Celestia did prior, Twilight took up charge as the headmare of Princess Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns and took a student under her wing named Luster Dawn, who may have been the daughter of Starlight Glimmer and Sunburst.

Twilight kept in contact with her five friends from Ponyville, and presumably the other friends she made along the way, and founded the Friendship Council, an organization made up of her, Spike, the others and possibly Discord as they caught up on each others lives, discussed matters of Equestria and ruled the land together.

Using her continued friendship with the others as an example, Twilight taught Luster Dawn that friendship isn't something that fades, but stays forever if true and genuine.[8]

Personality

Twilight Sparkle is among the most righteous and heroic ponies in all of Equestria. She is incredibly brave, noble, selfless, kind, courageous and determined. Prior to moving to Ponyville, Twilight wasn't concerned with making friends or having anything resembling a social life. Instead, Twilight was mostly just interested in herself and propelling herself forward. Twlight was generally polite, but often put others down without thinking about their feelings. Regardless, Twilight had redeeming qualities. Although she acted mostly out of personal gain, Twilight wasn't necessarily selfish or mean-spirited, just focusing on herself and herself alone. She was altruistic, caring and had a genuine want to help others. She showered the few people she was close to with loving affection and though she was rather controlling over Spike, still showed him nourishment and love. After moving to Ponyville, Twilight has developed into the friendly, sweet and high-spirited pony who enjoys making knew friends and spreads the virtues of friendship that we know and love today. Twilight is well known for her scholarly personality and unparalleled intelligence, studying more then just a little bit of everything. Twilight has been bookish from a young age, but as a filly, Twilight was far more adventurous then she was prior to moving to Ponyville. She often went on adventures throughout nearby woods and even played games of Oubliettes and Ogres with her brothers' friends. She appeared to be considerably more friendly and outgoing as a filly too. Though she appeared somewhat cold and a little stoic to Cadance, the two quickly became best friends. As a filly, Twilight was very dramatic and over the top, often reacting to situations with extreme emotions and expressions. To an extent, this personality trait carried over into her adult life, and is much more clear in some incarnations than others, but is typically downplayed. Twilight was a very precocious child, having a nigh-genius level intellect when she could be no older then 5, she proved smart enough to threaten even Cadance in a battle of the wits, proving hersel to be Cadance's equal in the end. However, Twilight was also a lot less caring as a filly. In contrast to several fan-interpretation of Twilight's character as a filly, Twilight cared very little for Spike, only thinking of him as an assignment she had to complete to make Princess Celestia proud, not as a friend to be loved. Twilight learned the error of her ways after realizing how badly she affected the baby dragon, and how much the dragon still loved her despite her flaws. Ever since, Twilight and Spike developed a relationship akin to an elder-sister, little-brother with Twilight supporting Spike, but also scolding him and shows a somewhat maternal side to him.

Despite her occasional lapses into stuck up and self-absorbed behavior, Twilight is generally good-natured, playful and even goofy. When she's not studying or reading or saving all of Equestria, Twilight enjoys having fun in more traditional hobbies. She's shown to enjoy ssinging[9], dancing[10], telling stories[10] and generally goofing off. Twilight loves to party and almost always has a blast at Pinkie's parties. Twilight also enjoys public parties, having the time of her life at Ponyville's celebration during "Zen and the art of Gazebo Repair", singing and dancing with her friends and playing with Big Mac. Twilight loves to eat and gets upset when someone else eats her food, but is always willing to share[11]. She particularly appears to enjoy fries[12] and cakes. [13] Twilight is a great friend, caring and loving, supportive and nurturing, respectful and polite. Despite her polite nature, Twilight is shown to have occasional bad manners, though never out of laziness of malice. She eats like a hog[12] and sometimes lacks control of her emotions, going ballistic or even crazy over continued annoyances, though has grown to control her emotions and keep her cool in her years in Ponyville. Although sometimes seen as a "by the books nerd" by her friends[14], Twilight houses an artistic and creative side that occasionally comes out. When she was staying with Summer Mane, her singing drove the aged mare crazy.[15]

Twilight often acts as an older-sister-mentor type figure to those younger than her. She has proven herself to be a skilled teacher who cares for and respects her students greatly, never talking down to them or belittling their abilities, while also treating them like dear friends.

Twilight is equipped with a sincere love for all life in Equestria. Whenever lives are in danger, she springs to their aid, whether they be friend or foe. The extent of her selfless nature can be seen when she saved Discords life from Tirek, despite Discord being a consistent threat to Equestria and personally betrayed her only hours prior to the event. Twilight was sincerely sympathetic to Sombra after realizing the harsh childhood he was forced to endure, constantly being taunted by visions of his future self, and eventually caving into his foreseen destiny as the "King of the monsters". Twilight also showed empathy towards Tempest Shadow after realizing how betrayed and lonely she felt all throughout her life, and cared about the dysfunctional mare even when she was attempting to give Twilight up to the Storm King. Regardless of this, Twilight has her limits and though she felt bad for Sombra, she had no qualms with trying to ambush him. Likewise, Twilight seems to have utterly no love or Queen Chrysalis either, viewing her as nothing more then a truly wicked queen.

In some stories, Twilight is extremely expressive and emotes to situations in a much more cartoonish fashion then usual. These situations tend to play off of Twilight's well-known 'problems' regarding her stress and need to be the best she can possibly be. Even at her absolutely most extreme portrayals, Twilight always retains her strong moral center and never does anything to bad. However, she doesn't necessarily seem to have a problem with stalking and spying on others for personal gain, though is greatly embarrassed upon getting caught. That said, Twilight has shown to be okay with using or even manipulating others for self-gain, however this usually only happens when Twilight is to far gone to see things rationally. This isn't always the case and sometimes she simply does rude or mean things to get out of annoying social situations. This side of her personality is more or less a leftover byproduct of her anti-social behavior and has mostly melted away, as with several (but certainly not all) of Twilight's more negative traits. Glimpses of Twilight's personality can be seen in her relationship with her opposite from the Reflection universe. In the reflection universe, Twilight was cold, uncaring and only reads non-fiction books. This version of Twilight also didn't appear to care for her friends and had no qualms or concerns when the universes version of Rarity abandoned Spike for the most minor of offenses. Despite her overall good nature, Twilight has a rather nasty temper. She's blown up at her friends in stressful situations, even passively threatening Pinkie Pie with a magic spell during the "Beyond Equestria" storyline, though immediately regretted her actions.[16] Twilight has also willingly given up on her friends when she believed they no longer cared about one another[17], but once again heavily regretted this decision and reconciled with her friends shortly thereafter. In tandem of her temperamental side, there lies her emotional side. Twilight has been shown to flair between emotions at a moments notice. In the manga story, "Welcome to Ponyville", Twilight was downtrodden after believing none of her friends cared about her anymore and didn't want to spend time with her, but was reduced to tears of joy when they told her just how much they loved her.

Template:Q3

In conjunction of Twilight's more rational mindset, Twilight is extremely neat, tidy and tries her best to be as organized as possible. This is, of course, one of the many self-destructive qualities of Twilight's personality that tends to cause her to become more stressed then she reasonably should. Although this quality sometimes annoys her friends, they have mostly since accepted it and sometimes help her with her organizing. In the manga story, "Cleaning!?", Rainbow Dash tried to help Twilight with her chores, but only made a massive mess by throwing all of her stuff outside. Spike also usually helps with the cleaning, but sometimes does it all by himself.

Twilight is exceedingly humble, almost to a self-destructive level at times. She vehemently dislikes to show off the true extent of her magical talent in public in fear people will think less of her, and she has an overall stigma against using her abilities in public situations outside of simple spells and tricks. This has softened up considerably over the years. Despite her constant fear of losing her friends, Twilight is generally admired and respected by most people she meets. Even villains such as Discord have warmed up to her over time.

Template:Q3

Upon becoming a princess, Twilight was rocked with a myriad of mixed feelings. While initially elated at such a prospect, Twilight was quickly met with stress and self-doubt. She simply didn't believe herself not be qualified for the position, despite her friends all cheering her on. Twilight went to seek help from her elders in Ponyville, such as the Cakes, who showed her warmth and sincerely believed in her, but Twilight wasn't convinced. She went to seek the advice of her sister-in-law, Princess Cadance. Even after Cadance gave her solid advice and helped her through the stress, Twilight still was not convinced. Days later, she still felt uncomfortable and anxious over her position and struggled to sleep at nights because of this. Granted, her inability to sleep was also amplified by her wings, which proved rather uncomfortable. Twilight has since grown into her role as Princess phenomenally and has become by far one of the most beloved figures in Equestria given her kind and courageous spirit.

Twilight typically speaks in a rather "advanced" manner. Although her language is considerably less artistic and theatrical as her close friend Rarity, it's still more regal then most of her friends. Twilight tends to use bigger-than-necessary words and often uses scientific names for objects, creatures and other things rather than the more familiar terminology. Twilight doesn't do this to project herself as a superior entity however, it's merely a habit and will always, and usually without annoyance, switch to more down-to-earth terminology when others have trouble following. Outside of her affiliation towards scientific wordings, Twilight has a tendency to lower her voice in more awkward situations and talk more 'girlish' then she usually does when she doesn't seem to know what to do. Twilight also has a tendency to rant and rabble, stringing together long, mumbled, incoherent messes of words when under stress or in disbelief. To a lesser, more coherent extent, Twilight can perform these when sufficiently angered.

Template:Quote

Twilight Sparkle is a righteous pony with a strong moral center and good sense of justice and law. She believes herself to be pure of heart, and has proven her good and selfless nature on many occasions. She is willing to risk her life not only for the safety of those she cares about, but also for strangers and even enemies, as she believes it to be the right thing to do. Although her morals can be halted by the prospect of personal gain - especially academic gains - she will always do the right thing in the end, no matter what. Twilight is willing to forgive friends and enemies alike if she believes them to be sincere, such as when she accepted Thorax for who he was or when she forgave and befriended Fizzle Pop Berry Twist. Twilight is always willing to fight for what she thinks is right, such as in her numerous clashes with Queen Chrysalis and other enemies. Although it doesn't become an issue to often, Twilight is lawful to a fault. She utterly refuses to betray Princess Celestia's law and rule, even when it's the right thing to do, and as such, did not once use her magic on Longhorn and his goons until they were blatantly breaking the law. This trait occasionally puts her at odds with her friends, but never for long. She is however, willing to manipulate the law in her favor as long as she doesn't break it. Twilight has proven herself to be brave, selfless and undoubtedly heroic in her many adventures, often making great sacrifices to save her friends and all of Equestria. During "The Return of Queen Chrysalis" story arc, Twilight willingly sacrificed herself so that her friends would not be drained of their love and solemnly mentioned how much she loved them in the process. Unquestionably a hard worker by nature, Twilight managed her library with impressive organization and punctuation, more so, Twilight would often help organize town events, sometimes even as the manager or leader of said events. It can be said that Twilight was essentially always doing something. Whether that be studying, experimenting, work, adventures, socialization or another myriad of errands Twilight has on her nigh-endless to-do list. Despite this, Twilight is usually chipper and sunny, but can have bouts of stress, especially after becoming a princess.

Even before becoming an alicorn, Twilight was a beloved hero in Equestria. So beloved in act that Twilight starred in her own cartoon serial at some point, albeit without her involvement. These serials were animated in a classic Disney-esque style and depicted Twilight and her friends on an adventure to say the Cutie Mark Crusaders from the wicked Queen Chrysalis. In short, these cartoons were direct adaptations of the current storyline, only shown in a goofier tone. The canonicity of these is lose however, as it was depicted in the backup stories for Friendship is Magic #2 and Friendship is Magic #3 and thus may have never happened. Twilight is a generally well-liked figure in Equestria. Twilight has since become a role model for children throughout Equestria and a mentor to those in Ponyville. Most of the citizens of Ponyville view Twilight as a friend, and she views them as family. Although she loves her life, her fame and reputation has had its negative impacts. Twilight is swamped with letters from all across Equestria looking or her help or advice. Twilight wants to answer all of these letters and help those to the best of her ability, but simply doesn't have the time or energy to do so, often resulting her in getting extremely stressed and disappointed with herself.

Although not as much of a "girly girl" as some of her friends, Twilight has shown off a more romantic, feminine side from time to time. During "My Future Darling", Twilight romantically dreamed of marrying her "future darling" and even used a spell to see who she would end up marrying. To her dismay, what she ended up seeing was Spike, though it was later revealed the spell didn't work. Twilight has her limits however, she believed Rarity's romance story during their adventures in the Storybook worlds to be "to much even for me" and proceeded to vomit in her hat as a sign of disgust. Twilight is known among her friends for having a rather peculiar sense of humor. She appears to find humor in the outlandish, laughing at things she deems "not scientifically possible", but doesn't tend to find humor in more practical means. For example, Twilight rarely appears to find Pinkie Pie particularly funny and sometimes sees her pranks as annoying from time to time.

It's been shown that Twilight's love for her friends is deeply rooted. She loves them for who they are, for their best and worst qualities. When they were all arguing among themselves in Nightmare Rarity's castle, Twilight couldn't help but be endeared by their wonderful, terrible selves. Curiously, it's also been shown that her friendship appears to transcend the boundaries of space and time, as previous incarnations of Twilight, such as Baast, were friends with previous incarnations of the Mane Six, such as the Rainbow Dash-Look-Alike-Cat. Likewise, alternate timelines of Twilight almost always appear to be good friends with other versions of the Mane Six (and Spike!), no matter what.

When she ventured into her own mind, Twilight found that her mind was a massive, regal library. But a library that was incredibly disorganized. Several books - each representing things Twilight knew - were haphazardly placed around without a care, representing Twilight's desire but ultimate lack of order and organization. Deep in the recesses of her mind there contained an ugly force. Black and inky, there was an all-consuming black mass alien to its surroundings that would quickly overwhelm the library, and thus Twilight's mind. This represented her stress, but also her lack of self-control. Twilight wants to help everyone she can, no matter the effect on herself, and this black inky mass was the ugliness caused by her genuine desire to help those around her. This ugliness would eventually manifest in the form of Empress Twilight Sparkle, a form of Twilight's personality that removed her good-natured and caring side and left only her desire to learn, lead and "help" others.

Interest and hobbies

Twilight has a wide range of academic, literary and scholarly interest. She is a huge fan of the works of Jade Singer and has read a vast amount of books pertaining to countless subjects, such as law[14], biology, monsters[18], astronomy[19], history[20], etc. Twilight is quite the enthusiast of literature in general, given her deep knowledge of fictional stories and fairy tales. Despite this, she doesn't appear to be very savvy on more contemporary works such as Pony Trek or Power Ponies.

At times, Twilight is shown to have an obsession with books. During a Hearths Warming Eve stuck in a train station, Twilight went ballistic when she realized she had no books to read and ended up causing property damage in an attempt to find a book. Twilight loves reading so much that she set up her reading room for maximum reading capabilities. She owns two chairs for reading, a comfortable, velvet chair that she uses to read fiction, and a hardened, stiff chair she uses for non-fiction - She claims the stiff chair allows her to stay awake. Twilight loves to share the joys of reading with her friends, she always got Spike books for his birthday and Hearts Warming Eve and it was Twilight who finally got Rainbow Dash to read a book. Twilight is a huge fan of the Daring Do franchise, having read every book in the series.[21] She claimed she knew just as much about Daring Do as Rainbow Dash and the had a trivia contest to prove it.

Twilight is shown to be fairly athletic and competitive in her own right. She enjoys swimming, but isn't very good at it. Nearly drowning in her attempts to swim at the beach, only to be saved by Rarity.[22] Twilight seems to have an affiliation with water in general, as she highly enjoyed resting in the Dark Water near Abyssinia. Twilight has a healthy appreciation for competition. She enjoys competing, but rarely makes it personal and enjoys whatever she does to compete. She's also been shown to be a fan of iceskating, though isn't very good at it.[23] She participated in the Running of the Leaves event and did petty decent in her own right, though wasn't in the top 5. It seems that the respectable amount of athletic activity has done wonders for Twilight, as she's nearly as lean, powerful and durable as Applejack and Rainbow Dash in he more recent adventures, though still prefers magic.

Twilight has a fascination with science and history, spending a good portion of her free time studying both and has amassed an incredibly respectable pool of knowledge in both. Twilight has shown to have a near encyclopedic knowledge of Equestrian history, knowing a wealth of information on countless aspects of Equestria's well-storied history and has a real love for it.

Twilight is shown to enjoy sandwiches and fries. In general, Twilight has a love for eating that surprises many. She's a huge fan of Applejack and Pinkie Pie's cooking and is almost always seen enjoying their dishes. She also appears to be a fan of Spike's cooking, though never really gushes about it. Since Spike appears to be the cook of the household, it's possible that while she enjoys his cooking, she's just used to it. Like most ponies, Twilight has quite the sweet tooth. She loves pastries such as cakes, cupcakes and muffins and guzzles down Apple Cider. She's also a fan of fruits and vegetables. Really, theirs seldom any food Twilight doesn't seem to enjoy, or at east tolerate.

Twilight enjoys teaching others about history or to improve them as individuals. She also has a love for learning and growing better herself, and trained with Zecora to improve her skills. Twilight appears to be fairly interested in the game Niramekko, or at least knows the inner workings of the game and even made a funny face when discussing it.

Reputation and fame

Template:Quote Twilight Sparkle was an incredibly gifted Unicorn and has been highly regarded for abilities in the arts of Magic for a very long time. As a filly, Twilight was accepted into Princess Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns for her demonstration of magical prowess and though her stay at the academy started off rocky ("Friendship is Magic #40"), she eventually found herself as being Celestia's "dearest student". Twilight's reputation would only grow with time. In her early adventures in Ponyville, Twilight Sparkle was already considered to be by most as the greatest Unicorn in all of Ponyville, if not all of Equestria.[24]

Much to her chagrin, Twilight would become a highly merchandised figure within Equestria. Given her status as a Princess, she was deemed quite popular and thus marketable by Mighty Minotaur Construction who mass-produced several cheaply made dolls and toys based off of her face, infamously creating a "Twilight Sporkle" doll without her permission, but created other dolls resembling her as well.

A much more positive example, when Twilight was deemed a hero to Ponyville by Mayor Mare, she commissioned a sculptor pony to design a statue for Twilight. Although the intentions were good, the sculptor unfortunately suffered severe eye injuries and poorly designed the statue.

Curiously, despite being an Equestrian hero, Twilight's reputation in other kingdoms tends to range from being a nobody to a criminal. It's implied the Mane Six are greatly disliked in Abysinnia for reasons not explored. Likewise, she is virtually unheard of in Klooge Town and was nearly sold into slavery for simply being a pony.

Relationships

Template:Quote

Twilight is known for her dependable attitude among her peers and thus has many relationships. In Ponyville, Twilight is seen as a role model by the children, who look up to her and love spending time with her. Twilight has shown genuine care for all the children in Ponyville and enjoys teaching them when she finds the time. By adults, Twilight is seen as a reliable friend who will do anything for them, and in return, they will do anything for her.

Even residents Twilight hardly knows such as Matilda care for her and will do favors for her on a moments notice, such as when she helped Ms. Cake during the disastrous Ponyville Days on Twilight's request. However, this reputation has its downsides as well. Twilight often times can't fulfill the promises she makes with her peers, usually leading to some sort of disaster. For the most part however, her friends understand and help out when they can. Twilight has said that Ponyille was like one big family to her, a sediment she often backs up with her deep and genuine love for all of its citizens. Even after becoming royalty, she still respected them for who they were and even sites them for advice and help when she feels they could help. In many ways, Twilight has been a beacon of warmth throughout Ponyille, offering advice and sisterly affection to those who needed it and stands up for them whenever she's given the chance.

Twilight is close to her family, still seeking to have adventures with Shining Armor and enjoys his company whenever the two can make time for one another. She's also on good terms with her parents and sister-in-law, all of whom she treats with admiration and love. Although not related by blood, Twilight seems to views Spike as if he were family, though she may tease him for his cuter, more feminine side, she is fiercely protective of him and will risk her life for his.

As revealed in Fluttershy's time-traveling escapades with Discord and the Cutie Mark Crusaders, Twilight's bond with the Mane Six and Spike time itself, as they have been friends for thousands of years, as far back as Anugypt at the very least, though possibly as ancient as the dinosaur age. Even in the era of King Anubis, Twilight was going on adventures with her friends in the form of Baast the cat as she freed her people from Nightmare in it's most ancient incarnations.

Although Twilight is close to all of her friends and loves them all, she has a particularly strong bond with Spike, Rarity and Princess Celestia.

Spike is Twilight's very first friend and remained her only real friend for several years. As such, the two are very close and care deeply for one another. The two treat each other in a manner to siblings and happily proclaim the other to be their family. Despite this, the two have drastically different personalities and sometimes bicker. Twilight is generally more chipper, upbeat, rationally minded, though occasionally lacks compassion and empathy while Spike is more cynical, rash-thinking, impish though compassionate and kind.

The two grew up together, Twilight raised him from only months after he was hatched and although their relationship was rocky at first, Twilight eventually grew to love the baby dragon as the baby dragon loved her. As such, the two have a strong, brother-sister type relationship with one another. Twilight has openly said she loves Spike in the past[25], and her love means the world to Spike.[26] The two are almost always by each others side and remain loyal to one another in thick and thin and always have the others back. Twilight is very supportive of Spike, showing pride in his abilities and generosity on multiple times throughout their many adventures, such as hen she hoof-bumped him when she learned of his great exploits in protecting Equestria while she was away.[27] Twilight's maternal instincts often kick in while dealing with Spike and his occasionally immature personality. She often provides a stern, but caring voice of reason towards Spike in his more childish moments, scolding him for being rude or when he does unhealthy activities, such as eating an entire box of ice cream at once.

The two's bond is practically unbreakable as the two are extremely close to each others hearts. It was revealed that Spike's greatest fear would be to be deemed no longer useful by Twilight and thus sent away. Despite his fears, Twilight would never do anything like that to Spike. Spike almost always has Twilight's best intentions at heart, even if he can be a 'numbskull' about it. Likewise, Twilight is willing to do whatever she can to help Spike. Even though she can be rather annoyed at his occasional neediness or rude behavior, Twilight is always by his side through thick and thin. She accompanied him on both of his treks into Dragon Land, protecting him from Garble and his gang whenever she could and was devastated when Spike said he wanted to stay with the dragons forever, leaving her behind. Although Spike sometimes acts cowardly and self-absorbed, whenever Twilight (or any of his friends) is involved, he tries to do his best. This could be seen when he and Princess Celestia traveled up Crystal Mountain, just to get the materials needed to create a new telescope for his best friend.

Despite their loving bond, the two weren't always so close. When Twilight first received Spike, she didn't seem to really care for the dragon. She viewed him as nothing more then an assignment that she had to complete - an assignment that she truly thought ruined her life. As she cared for the dragons physical needs, she neglected his emotional needs and showed love and care towards her toys in front of him, causing the dragon to grow sad and possibly develop somewhat of an identity crisis. She complained that the dragon made her look like a bad caretaker, a bad student and a most hurtful of all, a bad daughter as she had an emotional breakdown in front of him. The dragon tried to cheer to her up by pretending to by like Smarty Pants, which won over Twilight's heart and the two couldn't have been closer since.

Rarity and Twilight are very good and close friends, with Twilight sometimes referring to Rarity as her best friend. The two typically get along great with one another and hang out frequently. Although Twilight's slightly more rustic and modest nature sometimes clashes with Rarity's more vain and fashion-driven personality, these clashes often times only result in small quarrels that rarely escalate into anything greater. Although it has caused less arguments, the more drastic difference between the two is Rarity's more passionate personality and Twilight's more rational mindset. This has caused the two friends to split up and deal with issues by their lonesome, crumbling the teams dynamic in the process.[28] Regardless of any fighting or differences the two have, they care deeply for one another and have risked their lives in order to save the other on multiple occasions. The two have only grown closer since their continued adventures together, with the two openly saying how much they love one another on a number of occasions and are very supportive of one another. Rarity often goes out of her way to make dresses or other garments for Twilight and her friends, and although Twilight isn't always a fan of the finished product, she is always very grateful for them and appreciates the effort dearly.

As the only two magic users in the Mane Six, the two often team up to save problems the others cannot with their lack of abilities, such as when they teamed up to collapse a water tower in order to stop a raging fire or when they used their magic to repel an army of Changelings that and invaded Ponyville. The two often team up in non-magically orientated tasks as well, such as when they impersonated lawyers together in order to stop Longhorn's diabolical scheme or when they teamed up in order to make sure Spike was safe in his adventures in the Dragon Kingdoms. Rarity, like most of Twilight's peers, often seeks her when she sees advice or knowledge regarding concepts she doesn't quite understand, such as history or possible diseases.[29] Twilight tries to help Rarity whenever she can.

Twilight is also quite close to Rarity's younger sister, Sweetie Belle. Twilight tutors Sweetie Belle and the rest of the Cutie Mark Crusaders for free and helps teach them a variety of skills and lessons. Outside of the more mentor-student aspect of their relationship, Twilight and the Cutie Mark Crusaders are great friends who enjoy the others company. Twilight cares for the three as if they were family and has shown to be protective over them.

Princess Celestia is Twilight's mentor and idol. The two have a loving, almost mother-daughter like relationship and the two rarely fight. Twilight has displayed almost a fearful nature of Celestia in the past however. She fears that any mistake she would make could break their relationship, leading Celestia to banish her or worse. Likewise, she fears the idea of Celestia punishing her friends for any mistake they could make. These fears however, are unfounded as Celestia would do nothing to hurt Twilight or any citizen of Equestria unless severely provoked firsthand. Twilight's fearing of Celestia has melted away as she grew up and especially after she became an alicorn. While she still puts Celestia on a pedestal, she see's more more as a friend rather then someone to be feared.

Celestia greatly admires Twilight for her kindness and intelligence and trust her word on most subjects. That said, there have been instances where Celestia did not believe Twilight's claims, but these are often few and far between. Celestia truly loves Twilight and has gone out of her way in order to make Twilight happy, such as when she aided Spike at Crystal Mountain in order to get the materials in order to craft a telescope for Twilight.

Twilight's relationship with Princess Luna is similar in many ways, but radically different in others. While she has great respect for the moon princess, Twilight appears to see Luna as more of a close friend rather then her superior. This is likely due to Twilight and Luna bonding as friends rather early in Twilight's stay in Ponyville. Because of this, Twilight is far more casual in Luna's presence but still remains conscious of her royal position.

Twilight is also very close with the Apple Family as a whole, who she views as members of her honorary family. She loves Applejack like a sister and mentors Apple Bloom, who she cares deeply for. Although she rarely interacts with him, Twilight has a great deal of respect for Big Mac and treats him very well. Much like with Rarity, Twilight tends to get along very well with Applejack, but Applejack's more passionate nature clashes sharply with Twilight's more rational nature.

Twilight and Rainbow Dash are very good friends. Despite their differences, Dash has nothing but respect for Twilight and loves her like a little sister (despite likely being younger than her), always standing up for her and trying her best to protect her against the threats that blight Equestria. She rushed to her aid during Tempest Shadow's conquest of Ponyville and did not hesitate one bit to save her from Tempest, despite being furious with Twilight prior. The feelings are mutual as Twilight loves Rainbow Dash dearly and views her as if she was family.

Twilight has remained close to her older brother, Shining Armor, after years of being apart and the two have a loving relationship with one another. Twilight's more adventurous, high-spirited and thrill seeking side comes out in his presence. As foals, the two used to explore the wildness together and play tabletop RPGs with one another. Although Twilight has since grown out of such games, she remains a lover of adventure thanks to him. Twilight loves to playfully tease her brother.

Arguably, Twilight's greatest foe is the dark and evil Queen Chrysalis. Although far from the most powerful villain has had to defeat (that honor would probably go to Bookworm or the Pony of Shadows), Chrysalis is among the most irredeemably evil and persistent villains Twilight has yet to encounter. Chrysalis is ruthless and completely devoid of empathy, slaughtering entire villages and slaying animals in front of young ponies for nourishment and amusement. However, what makes Chrysalis special is her personal vendetta against Twilight. Chrysalis hates Twilight with all of her being and often goes out of her way just to spite Twilight. In the "Siege of the Crystal Empire" storyline, Chrysalis is depicted as being Twilight's "archenemy" of sorts and as early as "The Return of Queen Chrysalis", Chrysalis showed great hatred for Twilight in particular. The feelings seem to be mutual as Queen Chrysalis appears to be among the very few villains Twilight shows next to no empathy for. While Twilight's altruistic side shined through and showed care for Discord during "Twilight's Kingdom", Twilight has yet to show any form of compassion for Queen Chrysalis, and for good reason. It's likely Twilight believes that Queen Chrysalis is simply pure evil, unable to be reasoned with. Given the horrible atrocities and personal attacks Chrysalis has performed, it's not hard to see why. Whenever Queen Chrysalis rears her ugly head, Twilight is immediately on the alert, realizing no good can come from the evil queen. The two have repeatedly battled it out, with Chrysalis often coming out on top, though Twilight has won a few fights herself.

Unfortunately, Chrysalis's truly vile personality has tainted Twilight's view of Changelings as a whole, though having to battle changelings constantly probably gave her a negative opinion of them as well.[30][31][32] Twilight has since grown out of this upon meeting Thorax, a kind-hearted and caring Changeling who became extremely good friends with Spike. Ever since, Twilight has accepted that Changelings, like ponies, can be both good and bad.

Similarly to Changelings, Twilight has a somewhat negative opinion on Dragons, baring Spike and Ember. Unlike Changelings who Twilight simply viewed as inherently bad beings, Twilight doesn't seem to believe the same for Dragons and finds them fascinating, she however also understands that Dragon culture is simply more lose and violent then Pony culture, and that Dragons are unbelievably powerful. Even teenage dragons appeared to be to much trouble for Twilight, Rainbow Dash and Rarity to deal with, and caused them to flee.[33] Twilight typically treats Dragons with respect, understanding that they are intelligent and sophisticated creatures in their own right, but also with nervousness due to their abilities. Twilight will however, stand up to dragons to protect those she cares about, such as Spike or the whole of Ponyville.

Much like with Changelings, Twilight has softened her views on Dragons ever since she met Ember, a diplomatic and compassionate queen.

Villainous moments

Twilight is usually very kind and caring, but has had her fair share of mean moments where she did not think or care about how her actions would affect others.

  • Before Twilight fully embraced Ponyville as her home, she was snide, controlling and downright rude to Spike, not apologizing after causing him to break his gift for Moondancer, nor even having the courtesy to look him while barking orders at him. Twilight would also actively annoy Spike and even cause minor pain, while also humiliating him in public and downplay has intelligence and maturity for her own benefit.
  • During the stressful trek in the lands beyond Equestria, Twilight threatened Pinkie Pie with her magic, causing the chipper pony to lurch back in fear as her happy expression morphed into one o fear and sadness. Twilight immediately regretted her actions, but her friends reused to accept her apology, instead they left her to be. All except for Spike, who stood by her side.

Personas and other lives

Over her many adventures, Twilight has adorned several personas; masks of her true personality whether by her own admission or some external force. Furthermore, Twilight has had numerous incarnations throughout the long history of Equestria.

Horsemare of the Apocalypse

During her time on the Salty Seamare, Twilight took up piracy in order to satisfy her curiosity. She would later join Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie and Rarity in the short-lived group of pirates known as the Four Ponies of the Apocalypse.

Tweezers

Template:Quote

Tweezers was the persona Twilight took up in "Dial S For Sassy". Tweezers was a prolific criminal notorious for her role in countless criminal organizations, stretching all the way to Horseshoe Bay. Much like Twilight, Tweezers was known for her intelligence with Pips even calling her "Da Brains" of the group. She was eventually put to justice by Helga Bugart, which was short lived due to Bookworm devouring their world. Afterwards, Twilight broke character and started acting like her old personality again.

Twilight Sparkling

Twilight Sparkling was the vampiric for Twilight had to undergo during the "Night of the Living Apples" story arc. For the most part, Twilights personality remained the same, but she showed more violent and brutal tendencies, as did the other bat ponies. She displayed a great desire to eat the fully-sentient apples, not displaying her usual all-loving, pure-of-heart personality in the process and spoke in a more macabre fashion. Nonetheless, Twilight remained ultimately heroic and righteous. While in this form, Twilight's fur became ragged, clumped and unclean and she developed razor sharp, vampiric fangs. She also became much more powerful, gaining "vampire strength" in the process. Although more bestial and savage, Twilight retained much of her intelligence and still proved to to have good problem solving skills. Twilight was able to overcome her desire to feed on the Apples in order to see the bigger picture and did good, protecting Good Apple and saving his brothers and sisters from Bad Apple, and even helped them form their own society.

Hateful Twilight Sparkling

While aiding in the defeat of the living Apples, lead by Bad Apple, Twilight discovered the ancient meteorite causing this madness. Examining the meteor, she realized that the meteor contained the dark energy and hate left by Nightmare Moon all those years ago. With no other solution, Twilight attempted to absorb the power of the asteroid and all of its hate and power. The plan didn't work as planned and though Twilight gained its power briefly, she had to transfer it towards Spike to expel it. While under its influence, Twilight's personality remained largely intact, though she began to glow a dark purple color in the process.

Empress Twilight

Template:Quote

After swimming in the pools of Dark Water, Twilight was infected with "Ethical Cancer", a mysterious, magical disease that emphasizes the good traits of a pony, twisting them into negative traits that completely overshadowed their true selves. Described as having the mental filter removed, the disease brought the worst out of ponies, turning them cruel, uncaring and overwhelmingly narcissistic. Twilight was not spared from such a fate. Although Twilight typically cares deeply for the citizens of Ponyville and respects them as individuals, under the effects of the cancer, Twilight believed them all to be buffoonish, idiotic and simpleminded. Twilight believed herself to be the most intelligent Pony in all of Equestria and din't take kindly to any resistance.

Under the curse Twilight lacked compassion and love. She had no qualms with battling against Rarity over the ruling of Ponyville, nor did she have any qualms with manipulating Rarity and Princess Luna into submission while she went to conquer all of Equestria herself. Believing herself to be the rightful ruler of the entire kingdom, Twilight cast down Luna with a single blast of magic after figuring out she was attempting to trick her into removing her curse. Much of Twilight's personality remained in this form, but was twisted and darkened. Twilight was still clever and organized, but unfathomably more intelligent -- or at least more willing to use her intelligence in self-serving manners. It was said that Twilight foresaw every possible reality and every possible outcome when she planned against her former friends. Regardless of her cruelty, Twilight appeared to have good intentions with her ruling, or at least used her possible good intentions as a front for her great evil. She did seem to truly believe society would benefit under her tyrannical rule and did appear to believe she would be doing good in the world. Nonetheless, Twilight cared not for the happiness of her subjects. Instead, Twilight developed machinery that would literally sap the intelligence from her subjects, turning them into near-mindless buffoons with no sense of danger or self-preservation. It was said by Princess Luna that it was good that Twilight did not retain her friendship with the girls when she took to power, or else they would be completely unstoppable. Twilight was staunchly objectiveness under the curse, having no consideration for individuality, color, or joy. Instead she wanted to rule with harsh fairness and dull colors.

Baast

Baast was Twilight in a past life, she was a Cat who lived in Anugypt. Despite being within Twilight's reincarnation lineage, the two are almost nothing alike. Baast was a master of chaos and was quick to action, doing what she had to do without the prospect of diplomacy or good-will. Baast was a passionate lover who was very active and aggressive about her feelings towards Discord and her seething hatred for Fluttershy.

Baast wasn't totally opposite from Twilight, however. Like Twilight, Baast set out to stop the forces of Nightmare and was quite wise, giving advice to the Cutie Mark Crusaders. Baast was also good friends, or at least the leader of several other cats who highly resembled the Mane Six.

Like Twilight, Baast represented the Element of Magic, despite not being a Unicorn. It is unknown the full extent of what Baast's magic could've been like, as she never had to unleash it, seemingly preferring physical combat over magic, given her defeating the Jackals with swiftness and force rather than any spells.

Reflection Twilight

Not much is known about Reflection Twilight or her personality. Like the Reflection Universe of the Mane Six, she appears to be cruel-hearted and villainous. Similarly to the main Twilight, she has a scholarly mind and loves to read, but hates fiction and finds it to be dumb, instead preferring purely factual books. This version of Twilight appeared to have no love or care for Spike, as she wasn't upset at Rarity banishing Spike away for insulting her hair.

Magic is Science

Twilight appeared as a rather morose and Eeyore-like Pony in The Transformers vs G.I. Joe. This can be seen in the actions of her fellow ponies, a white pony resembling Majesty, going up and licking the charred remains of Megatron, not showing any concern for the metalic being.

Personal life

Twilight is kind, gentle, loyal, hard working, loving, caring, but also sometimes insensitive, unemphatic, snarky and even a little self-absorbed, albeit not in a conceited manner. Twilight is proud of her abilities and has admitted that she's probably the most skilled unicorn in all of Ponyville, but doesn't look down on others for being less talented. Instead, she treats nearly everyone with a high of respect and earnest compassion, from rustic mules to business owners.[40][41]

In her early years, Twilight lived in a modest sized house with her parents, Twilight Velvet and Night Light respectively and her older brother, Shining Armor. She appeared to be on relatively good terms with Gizmo, would later move to Ponyville. Despite knowing each other prior, they never interacted with one another in Ponyville.

As a filly, Twilight was incredibly intelligent and knew it. She adored teasing her big brother, Shining Armor as she was smarter than him and enjoyed messing with his crush, Princess Cadance, who would become her babysitter before long.[42][43] Conversely, Cadance proved herself to be Twilight's intellectual equal, or at least smart enough to hold her own in their activities. Twilight also had a distinctly adventurous side to her in her earliest years, as she loved to explore the woods with her brother in order to track monsters they would meet along the way.[44] This adventurous side of hers would never be truly lost, but was locked away by her dedicating much of her childhood to studying and impressing Princess Celestia.[45][18] Twilight was quite the geek as a filly, and she loved to play Ogres and Oubliettes with Shining Armor and his friends. This geeky side would more or less be list when Twilight grew up, but she retained a couple of geeky activities such as being a fanatic of Daring Do. Twilight was quite rude, self-absorbed and condescending in her youth, which only grew worse when she attended Princess Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorn's.

When she first attended Princess Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns, Twilight also had to pick up the burden of raising a dragon to her increasingly stressful life.[18] At first, she couldn't stand the dragon, never giving him more attention then she had to and never showing him affection or love. Although just a baby, the dragon picked up on her attitude and was deeply saddened by her low opinions of him. To make matters worse, Twilight often showed her toys, such as Smarty Pants, love and care, hugging it and calling it a good friend while venting about how much she hates dealing with the dragon...right in front of him. The yelled at the dragon frequently, and limited his freedom and playtime, often time yanking him away whenever he tried to run off. All of this cultivated in the baby dragon attempting to emulate Twilight's beloved toys to get her attention instead. Upon seeing this sight, Twilight realized her wrong doings and took the dragon for what it was, a friend in need. Ever since, Twilight and the dragon, who she would later name Spike became her very best friend who has stayed by her side through thick and thin.[18] Spike would continue to live with Twilight in her dorm until she moved to Ponyville. While living together, the two were close, but it's clear Spike wasn't always pleased with Twilight's friendless status and controlling attitude.

When she first moved to Ponyville, Twilight was friendly, but solitary and introverted.[19][46] She just wanted to be alone so she could study and research. Despite this, she was shown constant affection by the five mares who would become her dearest friends, with the exception of Rainbow Dash, who took her as a spy. Regardless of any rocky beginnings, Twilight would bond well with the five mares and valued them as her very best friends shortly after. Twilight idolized Starswirl the Bearded, considering the unicorn to be her hero. In many ways, Starswirl was similar to Twilight herself. Both were heroic, compassionate and unbelievely intelligent unicorns, but both were quirky, awkward and filled with odd, cartoonish quirks. The key difference between the two could be considered that while Twilight is embarrassed of her less-then-perfect qualities, Starswirl didn't mind them, even embracing them at times. During the Shadowplay arc, Twilight was said to hae possesed as much potentional as Starswirl himself.

In Ponyville, Twilight first lived in Golden Oak Library with Spike and later Owlowiscious, and briefly Peewee. There, she worked a librarian and loved her job. Twilight was popular in Ponyville, quickly befriending almost everypony and having an incredibly close knit group of friends who she loved. Twilight was very active in the Ponyville community, she participated in nearly every, if not every major town event and even some minor ones. She visited the talent show and supported her friends, Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo while there and later played a pivotal role in the Hearths Warming Eve play, portraying the role of Clover the Clever. Earlier in her life in Ponyville, Twilight was elated to be a member of the Winter Wrap Up, even if she did mess it up. Twilight also participated in the Running of the Leaves race, and managed to beat Rainbow Dash and Applejack. In terms of competition, Twilight tends to enjoy a more leisurely paced, rewarding experience rather than a quick and exhilarating one. Despite what her friends tend to say, Twilight loves having fun but has it in her own little way. Her methods of fun are often considered weird by her friends, but they love her anyway.

Although more of a bookish nerd in comparison of her friends, Twilight is a very adventurous and outgoing mare with a strong sense of justice and right from wrong.[47] These traits become more apparent in her later adventures.[48][49][50] However, on a few occasions it's shown that Twilight's idea of right and wrong is somewhat slanted and inconsistent, sometimes she views using her magic to defend herself is fair, while other times she finds it to be immoral. Twilight will do anything to help her friends and to protect them from harm, such as traveling to the Dragon Lairs in order to ensure Spike's safety or going at great lengths to protect her fellow Mane Six members from Queen Chrysalis.[51][52] Twilight would go on many adventures with her friends. These adventures could range from entering the swamps[53] to braving the Everfree Forest.[54][55] In these many adventures, Twilight would grow a genuine resolve and unfailing sense of duty and justice.[56] Even on her first day of moving to Ponyville, Twilight was more than willing to confront Nightmare Moon and save Equestria from her night.[46] These adventures would prove to just be the beginning of the life and times of Twilight Sparkle, however. Not to long after saving Equestria from the clutches of the chaotic Discord[57], Twilight would clash with the truly despicable Queen Chrysalis multiple times, first in the capital city of Canterlot[58] and the other in her own kingdom.[27] Shortly after, Twilight was officially anointed as the Princess of Friendship and became an alicorn alongside her mentors.[59]

...And even that proved to just be another beginning. As the alicorn of friendship, Twilight was tasked with even greater tasks and grander adventures. In the process, Twilight went from a well-liked but not particularly popular or well-known unicorn to becoming one of the most popular (and marketable[60]) figures in Equestria.[61] She became a hero to those of Ponyville[38], mentor to foals and fillies[35] and best friend to many.[62] Twilight's role as a princess was tested many times on may different occasions, and although she was filled with self-doubt and insecurities[61][63], Twilight proved herself to be compassionate, pure of heart and more then worthy enough to be princess throughout it all. Twilight's heroic nature and morality has also been tested throughout the years. Perhaps the biggest testament to her moral nature was when she showed mercy and care for Discord, master of chaos, bargaining for his life over her own power, despite the Draconequus betrayed her for self-gain.[64][65] With very few exceptions, Twilight has always shown compassion and mercy for her foes, almost never showing content and hatred for them.[50][66] Perhaps the only villain to invoke hatred in Twilight would be the cruel and wicked Queen Chrysalis.[27][67][68] However, she showed Storm King no empathy either.[16]

Family

Twilight hails from the Sparkle family of unicorns. Although the exploits of her past lineage is largely unknown, the children of Twilight Velvet and Night Light have proven to be extremely successful in the land of Equestria, with Shining Armor marrying a princess and becoming the head of the Royal Guards, while Twilight has become a princess herself and a symbol of love and friendship throughout Equestria. The Sparkle family continues to grow with the birth of Flurry Heart, the daughter of Shining Armor and Princess Cadance. In terms of extended family, it is strongly implied that Twilight's Sister-In-Law, Cadance, is related to Radiant Hope, though Cadance knows nothing of her lineage.

  • Twilight Velvet: Twilight Velvet is Twilight Sparkles mother. Much like Night Light, she appears to be a caring and loving parent.
  • Shining Armor: Shining Armor is Twilight's older brother. Shining Armor is good-natured, friendly, caring, supportive, forgiving and makes friends very quickly. He's protective over Twilight and always jumps to her aid when she's in trouble, but is never overbearing. He respects his sisters intelligence and understands just how capable she is. Although the two love each other very much, their busy jobs keep them from spending as much time together as they would like. Shining Armor said Twilight was his family mare in the whole wide world, tied with Cadance of course.
  • Princess Cadance: Cadance is Twilight's sister-in-law and former babysitter. The two are very close, they share a sisterly bond and would do anything for one another. When te two were looking through Sombra's old possessions, Twilight said Cadance was her sister, and that she will come to her aid whenever she needed it. Although Twilight briefly thought Cadance turned evil during the Canterlot Wedding, when she realized that it was actually Queen Chrysalis and not Cadance, she patched up her friendship with the Alicorn. The two enjoy teasing Shining Armor for his somewhat dimwitted acts.
  • Flurry Heart: Flurry Heart is Twilight's niece. They have a close, loving relationship. Twilight loves to spend time with Flurryheart and dotes on her.
  • Spike: Although not related by blood, Spike and Twilight are practically family in the truest sense of the word. Twilight raised Spike only months after he was hatched and the two have lived together ever since. Twilight has always acted in a rather maternal role towards Spike, instelling good manners in the young dragon, but also treats him like an older sister would treat a younger brother -- poorly that is. While she doesn't go out of her way to bully Spike, Twilight isn't above using him as a means to the end, though has since grown out of using him as she stayed in Ponyville. Regardless of the bad treatment, Spike loves Twilight and she loves him.

Twilight considers the Apple Family to be apart of her honorary family[34], a view she shares with all of her closest friends. Twilight acts like a concerned and occasionally doting older sister to her friends, worried about their safety at the drop of a hat and always praises them when they do something worth praising. She acts this way especially towards her particularly young friends, like the Cutie Mark Crusaders, who she treats like little sisters, always caring for them, giving them advice, encouraging them and helping them with their issues. During the Ponyville Days debacle, she considered all of Ponyville to be like family to her[69], and while the town was decided at first, much of its residents decided to help Twilight out with care and admiration for their princess.[62]

In many ways, Twilight seems to view Princess Celestia as a motherly figure, or at least a role-model.[70] When she was a filly, Twilight idolized Celestia above all else[4] and the alicorn seemed to take a special liking to Twilight as well, letting the filly sleep on her[70] and gave her special lessons. Over the years, the two grew very close and although Twilight still idolizes her, she's began to treat Celestia more like a dear friend or family member rather than a force of law or nature.[16]

Name and nicknames

Twilight's name is derived from her parents names. "Twilight" is taken directly from her mother, Twilight Sparkling while "Sparkle" is likely a reference to her fathers name "Night Light". In addition, her name shares similar nomenclature with other unicorns, as being a combination of a word describing the sky or celestial objects followed by a synonym for light or similar concepts ("Sunset Shimmer", "Starlight Glimmer", "Night Light").

Twilight has a variety of nicknames and titles she's been called throughout the years, often as good-natured teasing by her best friends and family.

  • Egghead: Rainbow Dash often calls Twilight "Egghead" as a good-natured tease.
  • Twi: A common shorthand for Twilight, often used by Spike or other friends.
  • Weirdo: Applejack called Twilight a weirdo during their stay at Canter Creek.
  • Mare of the Apocalypse: When she was apart of Rainbow Dash's pirate team, she was a member of the Mares of the Apocalypse along with Dash, Pinkie Pie and Rarity.
  • Twylie: Twilight is sometimes affectionately called "Twylie", usually by her big brother, Shining Armor, but also sometimes by Spike.
  • Empress Twilight Sparkle: When Twilight was taken over by the Ethical Cancer virus, she deemed herself the harsh, but fair empress of Ponyville and all of Equestria.
  • Princess: Her official title, though Twilight doesn't like being referred to it.

Education and teaching

Twilight was educated at Princess Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns, and was taught by Professor Inkwell. Although Twilight's grades were initially mediocre due to raising Spike and the stress that came from it, Twilight eventually became a star student and was known as Celestia's "Most Dearest Student". Twilight appeared at the school until she moved out of Canterlot and was rather anti-social at her school, rarely attending her peers parties or ever really hang out with them. After moving to Ponyville, Twilight's education seemed to stop, although she ws still in contact and did assignments for the princesses, she mostly did her own thing. Twilight would teach fillies and foals in Ponyville in little, but meaningful ways and appeared to be an active supporter of Cheerilee's school, helping out with school projections such as talent shows and field-trips.

Twilight prides herself on her ability to teach others using self-proclaimed, old-fashioned methods. Indeed, her methods are generally very traditional and clash with her friends more abstract, playful, even methods. Her style relies primarily on reading and studying in a more traditional sense, using a pen to highlight useful, special information and separate it from irrelevant info. Although her method works wonders for some, it does not for others. Twilight learned this throughout the events of "Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3" and it appears to have stuck with her as in Twilight Time, she structures her teaching methods around the individual strengths and weaknesses of her students.

Twilight takes great pride and joy in teaching others and goes out of her way to find what her students are good at and tries her best to tend to their needs. When she realized Rainbow Dash wasn't resonating with her method, she accepted Fluttershy's, Pinkie's and Rarity's help and when she finally realized how Dash learned, she organized all of Ponyville to help her study. Twilight is shown to really care about her students and values their learning process greatly. Although she set up "Twilight Time" as a method to teach the Cutie Mark Crusaders personally, she didn't mind teaching all the foals and filles in Ponyville, but was worried she wouldn't spend as much time with her three favorite fillies.

Jobs and careers

Throughout the first years of her young-adult life, Twilight didn't have a proper job. Instead, she was a student at Princess Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns. Since her arrival in Ponyville, Twilight has had a numerous amount of jobs, occupations and roles in community events.

  • Librarian: Twilight worked as a librarian at Golden Oak Library with Spike as her assistant. She would make her living at this job for a considerable amount of time and typically had a blast at doing it. Twilight would derive a simple pleasure the rudimentary task at the library, such as shelving books and recommending books for all the ponies who would attend.
  • Adventurer: Although not an actual job in the traditonal sense, Twilight has had to take up the call to adventure on countless occonsions, such as traveling to the Changeling Kingdom in order to safe the Cutie Mark Crusaders from the clutches of Queen Chrysalis, or the time when she had to travel to the Moon in order to free Rarity from Nightmare. Twilights adventures and exploits far outweigh even the most seasoned of royal guards, as she has had missions involving traveling to entirely different universes such as in "Reflections" and in "the 6th storyarc". In addition, Twilight has been instrumental in saving both her world and the Reflections Reality from the evil Reflections Celestia and has saved Ponyville and all of Equestria countless times.
  • Marry Man: While in a Robin Hood-lie world, Twilight had to become a "Marry Man" and aid Pinkie Pie in saving "Raritunzel".
  • Explorer: While visiting the Daring Do reality, Twilight became an explorer on her way to save Daring Do.
  • Sailor: Twilight briefly became a sailor when visiting the reality of a unnamed Romance Novel.
  • Warrior: In "One Worm To Fool Them All", Twilight was ironically clad in viking-like warrior armor. She, with her party was tasked with traveling to "Mt. Worm", however at "Twenty-Five pages of nothing but walking later", Twilight ended up in a frozen tundra almost unable to continue. To make things more interesting, Pinkie Pie decided to create a horde of zombies to follow the group.
  • Pilot and Astronaut: Within the "Universal Rainboom" reality created by Rainbow Dash, Twilight became a blueshirt-wearing pilot of an unnamed Spaceship. When the spaceship came in contact with an organic, asteroid-like lifeform, Twilight suited up in astronaut gear to investigate what they came in contact with.
  • Criminal: While in Dial S for Sassy, Twilight took up the name "Tweezers". She was "da brains" of "the operation", a crime group she ran with "Pips" and "Bolts". According to Helga Bugart, Tweezers had "her sticky little hooves keeping track of every cherry in every pie from here to Horseshoe Bay". Like with Twilight, Tweezers was not only very punctual and organized but perspective.
  • Lawyer: Twilight briefly worked as a lawyer during The Good, The Bad, and The Ponies after she kidnapped another lawyer to take his place. While impersonating the lawyer, she attempted to trick the Cattle Rustin' Gang into signing a false deed.

Health

For the most part, Twilight has stayed healthy and has only been seriously injured on rare occurrences. Despite clashing with the biggest baddies in Equestria and beyond, Twilight typically comes out on top and in peak condition. Still, Twilight getting injured or sick isn't an impossibility. During her clash with Queen Chrysalis, Twilight was left exhausted and passed out as a result of it. Other times, Twilight has fallen quite ill. When Ponyville was at the mercy of an unknown disease, Twilight was among the ones infected and needed to be cared for by Spike and Zecora.

Element of Magic

Princess duties

As a Princess, Twilight is tasked with several duties that she never had to deal with as a mere student of Celestia.

Abilities

Intellect and skills

Twilight playing the piano

Twilight had many skills across the board, but her most apparent trait was her intellect. Twilight had a mastery over a wide spread of academic concepts, from history, to engineering to various forms of sciences. In particular, Twilight had an affinity towards astronomy and loved to stargaze. Next to her intellectual abilities, Twilight was an incredibly talented musician, primarily a singer and worked as the lead singer for The Rainbooms. Twilight didn't display much talent with other musical instruments, but was a talented pianists.

As a byproduct of her intellect, Twilight was a natural born leader. Not only was she courageous and compassionate, but also was able to make tough decisions, organize creatures and know what was best for others.

Although Twilight's athletic abilities were often mocked by her friends, Twilight did display a number of abilities in this regard. Firstly, her flying skills, though not nearly as good as Dash's, was shown to be quite good by the time she got the hang of them, and was shown to be able to fly across Equestria in, at most, hours, going from Canterlot to Silver Shores in no time. However, her showings in other fields were lackluster. Her soccer game against Rainbow Dash was incredibly one-sided and she was among the last ponies to finish the Running of the Leaves, but she has shown great stamina and an unwillingness to give up during her attempts at these endeavors.

Magic and powers

Twilight was considered the greatest unicorn in Ponyville in terms of magical powers and was able to lift even an Ursa Minor with her abilities. Twilight's most often used ability was probably her teleportation spell, which allowed her and others to teleport a great distance, though the extent of said distance was never revealed. Aside from teleportation, Twilight tended to use forcefields to both protect and trap herself, her friends and her enemies. Although a pacifist by nature, Twilight still used offensive magic when necessary, such as when she used magical blasts to combat Tirek and other fiends.

Twilight in addition had spells that allowed her to enter books, create sound-proof silence, transmute living beings into objects and grow hair.

Behind the scenes

Portrayal

"Star Gazing Twilight", a sketch for the series' original "show bible", My Little Pony Adventures

Due to being the lead character in both Friendship is Magic and the first two Equestria Girls films, Twilight has appeared in several pieces of media and thus, has had a number of actresses to portray her. In all English-animated media, Twilight was voiced by Tara Strong, though was portrayed by Kira Buckland in My Little Pony: Power Ponies. In the Japanese-original series, Little Pony TV Twilight was portrayed by Miyuki Sawashiro, a Japanese singer and member of Milky Holmes.

Twilight Sparkle has had a few forays into the realm of live-action, unfortunately many of her actresses in these roles are currently unidentified. These include an unidentified actress in the Taiwanese opening and an actress who portrayed her in the music video Magic of Friendship. At least one of her actresses has been identified however, which is Chloe MacGregor, who portrayed her in My Little Pony Musical, a theatrical adaptation of Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks.

In-universe, Twilight Sparkle has been played by a few actresses, mostly as meta-jokes involving the release of My Little Pony: The Movie. In Friendship is Magic #66, an unnamed actress portrayed her in various films and in the covers to My Little Pony: The Movie Prequel, Twilight was depicted as being a movie star, appearing at a theater in Applewood for her own film.

Age

Like with every character in the show, their is confusion regarding the actual age of Twilight, which fans generally assuming late teens to mid 20s as the general range. Using secondary canon sources such as the IDW Publishing comic books, a decent amount of chronology involving Twilight's age can be gleamed. Most notably, promotional material for My Little Pony: 20/20 described the story taking place twenty-years in the past, which took place during the Sonic Rainboom period, meaning the Sonic Rainboom that connected the Mane Six happened twenty years prior to the events of the comic, which were set sometime after My Little Pony: The Movie. Some fans however do not take this as canon as the actual contents of the book give vague descriptions of the chronology.

Twilight is around the same age as Lyra, as the two went to school together in the same classes, and Lyra has been shown to be old enough to join S.M.I.L.E.[71] and get married, implying they're all adults.

Marketability

Twilight often contends with Pinkie Pie as being the face of the My Little Pony brand. Twilight has appeared on countless trading cards and has hundreds of unique toys modeled in her likeness and was among the first three toys in the Bishoujo toyline. As of 2020, Twilight remains much of the face as she appears front and center in the packaging for Reveal the Magic toys.

Twilight Twinkle

Twilight Twinke

As depicted in the bible, My Little Pony Adventures, Twilight was previously named "Twilight Twinkle". While her characterization was mostly the same, being described as clever, intelligent, somewhat insensitive and rude but kind-hearted, morally sound, brave with a strong sense of right and wrong, as well as both a natural leader and insecure, her history was slightly different. Being the Unicorn of Ponyville, a concept dropped in the final show, Twilight Twinkle was a courtly individual who would receive missions from Queen Celestia, an inverse of the concept in the show.

Twilight Twinkle was to have strong relationships with Cheerilee and Shaman (who later turned into Zecora). With Cheerilee, Twilght and her were to have a very close relationship, being both studious ponies with passions for lore and histories. This relationship was almost dropped entirely from the show, but the two nonetheless appear to be good friends. With Shaman, Twilight was to have a mentor-student relationship with her with Shaman being her mentor. This relationship was brought up to an extent in "Magic Duel" where Zecora mentored Twilight to defeat Trixie.

Though unclear, Twilight had some relationship to the city of "Canterbury".

Twilight presumably was set to appear in two unproduced episodes. "Fancy Meeting You Deer" and "Nothing More to Sea". In the former, she was to convince an adoptive pony boy who was adopted by Deer who were described like stereotypical North-Eastern Native Americans (presumably inspired by the Iroquois or Algonquian peoples) to come back to Fillydelphia and in the latter, she was to travel a city at the beach only to discover it was dry and quickly becoming a ghost town. Eventually, she was to confront the Kraken in the Sea Pony Kingdom.

In spin-offs

Twilight was the main character of the first Equestria Girls film, My Little Pony: Equestria Girls and a major character in its sequel, Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks. In the Japanese exclusive TV show, Little Pony TV, Twilight was one of the two main characters, the other being her co-host Mimorin as they discussed aspects of Equestria and taught the audience at home English.

Appearances in other Hasbro media

Twilight appeared as a minor throughout other pieces of Hasbro media. She was a major character in the comic "When Worlds Collide", where she helped Optimus Prime and the Autobots fight off Megatron and was set to appear in the canceled Transformers x My Little Pony. Twilight appeared in pieces of artwork throughout Synergy: A Hasbro Creators Showcase and was shown to interact with members of The Holograms. Additionally, merchandise depicting Twilight as Dungeons & Dragons has been released.

In comics

IDW

Twilight Sparkle by JustaSuta

Twilight Sparkle is a central character in many of the IDW storylines and one-shots. Her backstory was greatly expanded upon in the comics and Friendship is Magic #40 showcased her earliest days raising Spike, how she went from hating the dragon to loving him as family. The comics also implied that Twilight may be a more than just a pony, with iconography of her cutie mark being associated with ancient heroes such as Baast.

Twilight's characterization in the comics vary greatly from writer to writer. Earlier arcs tended to play up her sweet, kind but slightly mischievous side, while later arcs and one-shots played with her more zany and sometimes rude personality. Though still a generally heroic figure, Twilight has many downright villainous moments in the comics.

Twilight appears throughout the Egmont comics.

In manga

Pucchihumi manga

Twilight in the manga

Twilight is far more animated here than her animated counterpart, being prone to give off highly exaggerated expressions when good or bad things happen. Examples of this can be found when she forgot to raise up her hoof on time; a sin that she claimed she could not forgive herself for, and when she was given a cupcake by Pinkie Pie. Twilight is shown to have a somewhat sarcastic sense of humor, giving a sour expression when she found out that Rainbow Dash's and Discords duel was just a "silly face contest". She also has a fiery temper and disbanded her friendship with Applejack over a petty fight, though soon forgave her.

Twilight was extremely brave and loving, she obviously cared for her friends extremely deeply and did not hesitate to come to Dash's aid when she was losing in a fight against Discord. Her best friend is Spike, though she was disgusted at the prospect of marrying him. Her ideal husband was shown to be a silohette of her brother, which...lets just ignore that.

She was very compassionate to others and awoken her library so Mr. Titter Tree could find love.

Twilight getting smacked

Twilight was broken up about missing an item on her To-Do list, reduced to sobbing her eyes out. When Spike told her to just do it then and now, Twilight broke down, crying on the floor while flailing her limbs claiming that it was to late and she couldn't. When Spike went to check what she missed, it was to yawn cutely.[72]

While hanging out with Applejack and Pinkie Pie, Twilight and Applejack began to notice Pinkie acting weird. Realizing her pinkie sense was acting up, the two ducked for cover as a series of flowerpots fell from the sky. Twilight was hit on the head, leaving a massive bump. Sometime later, the Pinkie Sense began to act up once again, leading Twilight to get upset, but all that fell were sweets like cupcakes instead, making her happy.[73]

Twilight loves Rarty!

Twilight's first few adventures after the darkness of Nightmare Moon were peaceful ones filled with love from her friends. Even though her friends were sometimes insensitive or rude, they never hesitated to show their love and care for Twilight, and never once hesitated to protect her from harms way. On a vacation to a Beach, Twilight asked Rarity to come swimming with her. Rarity respectively declined, but while swimming Twilight nearly drowned. Rarity rushed to her aid, saving her life. Twilight asked why she did it, since it got her mane all wet, but Rarity assured her that Twilight meant much more to her than her mane, prompting Twilight to tell Rarity she loved her.[74]

On a clear blue day, Twilight wanted to sped time with her friends. Applejack was to busy, Fluttershy was caught up and Rarity simply didn't notice her until she called her cute. Worried that her friends no longer loved her, Twilight stated to sob, but Rainbow Dash got her attention and dragged he to her 50th Day After Her Birthday party, where her friends told her they loved her. Twilight was overjoyed, but realized that they only used it as an excuse to party.[75]

ENOUGH

Twilight's largely peaceful adventures would continue for quite awhile, without much darkness or fights in her near future. Most of her problems during this period of time were somewhat inane and minor in comparison to the potentially world-ending plights she faced before. On one of these days, Sugarcube Corner was giving away free cupcakes. Twilight, her friends and in fact most of Ponyville came to celebrate this occasion. However, Pinkie Pie quickly ate the cupcake she gave to Twilight. As an apology, Pinkie gave Twilight "her" cupcake, which was in fact Dash's. Dash didn't notice that her cupcake was stolen in time and bit her hooves, causing her to fly into the sky in deep pain as Twilight watched on with a concern look. Enraged, Twilght told Pinkie Pie that was enough, but she didn't listen and instead stole Applejack and Fluttershy's cupcakes. Pinkie later decided to pull together their resources and eat together, which Twilight conceded and smiled at her friend.[76]

No one listening to Twilight

Twilight always suffered from a bad case of egotism, even if she wasn't malicious or even outwardly rude about it. In such a case of this ego was when she demanded to be right about "something" but no one would listen. After realizing none of her friends really cared and were preoccupied, she decided to go to Fluttershy to about it. Unbewonst to Twilight, as she explained whatever she needed to explain, she ended up making two birds fly away, which Fluttershy managed to play nice just moments prior. The usually kind and docile Fluttershy snapped in a flurry of rage as she violently yelled at Twilight and her friends, causing them off guard and forcing them to fallback.[77]

Regardless of any egotistic behavior, Twilight remained fundamentally selfless and down to earth. She tried to save Applejack from a Buffalo with the help of Rainbow Dash though after Applejack revealed the only reason why she was on the buffalo was for practice, Twilight let her friend deal with it. After hearing about Applejack's desire to win a Prize hat, Twilight told her friend hat she'll be rooting for her but grows annoyed and concerned when he Buffalo bucked Applejack several meters away. Twilight tried to help Applejack find what she was good at ad grew concerned when she believed Applejack was depressed. After realizing her talent, Applejack threw a pie in Twilight's face, proclaiming no one could beat her at a pie throwing contest, but Twilight doubted that that was a rodeo sport.[78]

"I'M THE STRONGEST IN EQUESTRIA. THE IRON PONY. I CAN'T LOSE. I WONT LOSE! YOU HEAR ME!?""
— Rainbow Dash

If only it were that easy in the actual episode...

On a dark and stormy night, Twilight was in her library reading a massive sized book with Fluttershy. She was soon interrupted by Pinkie Pie warning them that Discord was back "and evil" and engaged Rainbow Dash in a battle. Without an ounce of hesitation, a worried Twilight, now with the company of Applejack and Rarity rushed to the scene of the battle offering their help and support, stating that either they stand together, or fall apart. Unfortunately, it appeared as if they were to late as Dash was violently stricken into the ground with a powerful thunderbolt as Discord cried out that he would rule all of Ponyville. Crying out in fear, it was soon revealed that it was a game of Niramekko that Dash had won. Annoyed, Twilight tuck her tongue out and sardonically commented on the "battle" while her friends praised Dash for saving the day.[79]

A romantic night

Despite the dramatic events that only recently unfolded before her, Twilight was in a whimsical, dreamy and lovely mood. The warmth and happiness between Shining Armor and Cadance was so uplifting and true. Filled with strong emotions, Twilight wistfully looked up to the moonlit sky of Canterlot and wondered if she'll ever get married like that. Dreaming of a pony she can love and spend her life with, Twilight wondered if she should use a spell in order to see who she would end up marrying. At first she hesitated but soon decided it was to much to bear ad used her magic mirror to see who she would love. As it's happening, Twilight got a case of cold hooves and decided not to see. Unfortunately for her, the man she would marry turned out to be...Spike. However, as it turned out the mirror was busted and Spike checked on her to tell her her finished cleaning. Spike was concerned for her well-being, but Twilight semi-normalized and once again looked longingly into the night sky, realizing it be best that she didn't know.[80]

Twilight awakens Mr. Titter Tree

Sometime later, on a clear and sunny day, Twilight was reading an interesting book when Applejack asked her if she wanted to lasso with her. Twilight wanted Applejack to read with her, but Applejack refused and threw away Twilight's book. The two got into a heated argument. Applejack walked away in a fit of anger as Twilight felt guilty over what she did. Fearing Applejack would hate her, Twilight desperately tried to find a way to make it up to Applejack (in books, no less), Fluttershy tried to chime in but Twilight didn't notice her. Soon later, Twilight was dragged into a party by Pinkie Pie that was requested by Applejack so she could formally apologize to Twilight. Together, the six friends had a wild, good-natured party.[81]

Without warning, Fluttershy collapsed in front of Twilight. Rushing to her aid, Twilight was smacked away by Rainbow Dash who confronted her friend. After hearing about the dormant Titter Tree, Twilight tried to find a way to wake up the tree. After several failed attempts by her friends to wake the tree up (one of which ended up sending Rainbow Dash past the Ponyville mountains), Twilight found a spell that turned the tree alive. The spell was a success and the tree came alive. Twilight asked the tree what was wrong, and it admitted that he felt like a loser. Spending all his life helping others with nothing to show for it. Using another spell, Twilight enabled the tree the ability to walk. With his new found power, the tree caused a ruckus among Ponyville as it trekked through the town. Before long, the Titter Tree fell madly in love with Golden Oak Library and so Twilight turned the library alive so the two could meet. Princess Celestia appeared before Twilight to thank her for her selfless acts. The Titter Tree had once again embraced its loving nature. However, Rainbow Dash, unaware the tree was alive, rammed right into it, pulverizing a large hole in it, which Twilight decided to use as a reading spot. Rainbow Dash apologized for her actions and was truly happy that the two trees mentioned to grow close. Overwhelmed with joy and love, the ponies had a party celebrating their matrimony.[82]

Phase 6 manga

As very little information on the Phase 6 manga currently exists, much less in English, all that can be gleamed thus far is Twilight Sparkle appears within it.

Seven Seas manga

Twilight in this manga incarnation is a bit more zany than her cartoon counterpart, but not as much as her other manga counterpart. A brave and compassionate ruler, Twilight was a major character in the first first volume, but was far more minor of a character in its second volume.

Twilight-san

Twilight-san was a student at Ponyville-cho High School.

In games

Gameloft game

After Nightmare Moon came returned, she destroyed Ponyville and so Twilight Sparkle and the player unite to attempt to rebuild the city and bring back harmony to Equestria. In doing this, they buy a Windmill and later welcomed Bon Bon to the town. As they progressed, Twilight was grateful she could take her mind off Nightmare Moon, at least for the time being.[83] Later, Twilight attempted to let Pinkie Pie know it was safe to return and so she threw a party with a Balloon Stand.[84]

Later, Twilight read Elements of Harmony: A Reference Guide and forgot to eat. Due to this, she got the player to pick some apples so they could feed themselves.[85]

Tails of Equestria

Twilight is a figure in a few RPG stories, such as Tails of Equestria: Curse of the Statuettes and Tails of Equestria: A Dragon's Bounty. In the former, she was turned into stone by Moonbeam - who the story tells is basically a stand in for Twilight - and in the later, she visited Vanhoover to stop Razer from destroying the city. She, of course, didn't do squat and instead three foals, Strong Oak, Thrilly Filly and Firebrand instead saved the day.
