Nightmare Star is a Corrupted version of Princess Celestia from an alternate Equestria.
History
Unlike the universe of Equestria, where Princess Luna became Nightmare Moon and tried to seize sole power from Princess Celestia, in Nightmare Star's reality she apparently sought to rule Equestria herself. She evidently succeeded in this endeavor, claiming not only the throne but also the Elements of Harmony.
