Big Sugar was the son of Big McIntosh and Sugar Belle, nephew of Apple Bloom and Applejack, distant cousin to the Seed family, Orange family and Kelp family and possibly even Pie family. Not much was known about him, but he seemed to be playful and loved his family very much, especially his aunt Applejack, whom he hugged upon seeing her.
Behind the scenes
Big Jim mentioned "Big Sugar" as a placeholder name until the fans could come up with a better name, as the writers never gave him one officially. He appeared as one of the three known children born during the Era of Twilight's reign, alongside Luster Dawn and Little Cheese.
In "Cutie Mark Deuxsaders", he is referred to as Tinyhorse as a codename, but in the game proper, he's just referred to as Apple Foal with the description for his future self noting that they don't know his name either.
