Behind the scenes
The Hippogriff Friendship Student's design was first used for an unnamed colt in Surf and/or Turf. The two are presumably not the same character, as the time period in which the Friendship Student appears in The Last Problem is quite a bit later than that of Surf and/or Turf. It seems likely that the Friendship Student is either the child or another close relative of the unnamed colt, or else a naturally occurring doppelganger.
