Norman is a student at Canterlot High School and a member of the "Fashionista clique". Norman appears to be a ladies-man, often surronding himself with ladies, though he appeared to be in a relationship with Blueberry Cake. He seems to be charming, friendly and hard-working, but can be succumbed to rather dark acts if manipulated or controlled by beings such as the Dazzlings or Windigos.

History

Background

Norman is a regular at the Sweet Shoppe and appeared to be dating Blueberry Cake, as Twilight Sparkle saw him holding her hands.[1] He unknowingly became the source of Rarity and Sunset Shimmer's most embarrassing moments respectively, as his reactions to their "epic fails" caused them great embarrassment later.[2]

Personal life

Norman probably had a relationship with Blueberry Cake, as he was seen holding her hands down the hall.[1] They were seen again hanging out during the Memory Stone debacle.[3] He was also seen conversing with Rose Heart, though their relationship was unclear.[4] They may have been dating, however, since he took her on a date to Equestria Land.[5] However, the relationship may have just be platonic, as Norman, Blueberry and Cherry all hung out together at the park.[5] Further solidifying his friendship with Rose Heart was when the two stood in line for Tirek's Revenge for hours, possibly even overnight.[6]

He sat down to study with Rarity in the Library and acted like they already knew each other, but the connection is unclear.[2] While the school was doing a large art project, Norman was seen painting with Golden Hazel, though it's unclear if they were acquiescence, friends or romantically involved.[7] After the Battle for Canterlot High and Twilight Sparkle's departure, he was shown having a playful good time in the gym, touching his belt while Mystery Mint laughed hysterically.[8]

Personality

Norman is a fan of video games, particularly the Tirek series and waited in line overnight for the game.[6] He is also a rather vain individual who obviously takes pride in his appearance and fashion. He's apparently quite the "fashionista" and mostly surrounds himself with girls. He appears to be great friends with Rose Heart, as he waited in line with her for hours,[6] and hung out with her at Equestria Land.[5] His other hobbies seem to include card games, as he played a game of cards with Captain Planet while waiting in line.[6]

Behind the scenes

Prominence and reception

Norman is one of the more popular background characters to come out of the Equestria Girls series. He's appeared in a number of fan-art pieces and animations, and is sometimes considered a "husbando" alongside Flash Sentry, Timber Spruce and other prominent male characters. He's never played a major role in any animated feature known, but played a fairly important role in "Epic Fails", where he accidentally caused Sunset Shimmer and Rarity's most embarrassing moments. This is also the closest thing to a speaking role he appears to have, as he gasped at the sight of Rarity's food still in her mouth.

Naming

Norman is a background character with no official name. Norman is just a fan name, with his other fan name being "Normal Norman". Like Brawly Beats, his name is shared with a character from the third generation of Pokemon, however this is likely not intentional. According to old posts on Reddit, Normal Norman was decided given his "normal" appearance in contrast to the more animated and colorful students at CHS.[9]
