"Intelligent races" is a term used to denote the difference between the intelligent races of Equestria and most other creatures. These races are capable of speech, language, writing and social constructs. They are not always civilization-builders, but still have an obvious level of intellect to them. It should be noted that even creatures such as fish and spiders have shown the capable of understand language and even write, but lack the ability to speak.
