Cheerilee was a teacher who worked and lived in Ponyville, Equestria. As among the towns' very, very few educators, Cheerilee was known to be mature, caring, friendly and always willing to teach a lesson. Although Cheerilee had a demeanor of good-natured cheerfulness, it hid a past of regret and estrangement from her family.
History
Foalhood
Cheerilee spent at least some of her childhood in Ponyville[2] and was apparently quite popular growing up.[3] However, according to herself, she was actually quite shy.[1] She like many Ponyville's residents, she went to high school in Canterlot, specifically Canterlot Academy, which is where she struck up a friendship with Mayor Mare.[4]
Adulthood
Personality
Cheerilee, fitting to her name, is a naturally cheerful, kind-hearted and friendly soul who treats all those around her with love and affection. She has been shown to be orderly, protective and highly intelligent. These qualities were what likely propelled her into the life of being a teacher, but also seemed to influence her brief foray into the world of politics.[citation needed] Despite her mature and motherly nature, Cheerilee has shown to have more of a 'wild' side to her, as shown with her unadulterated love for apple cider.
Relationships
Cheerilee developed an estranged relationship with her twin sister, Cherry Blossom, who resented her back. Still, the two loved each other dearly and after Cherry Blossom suffered an injury, the two managed to reconcile.
Although she adores her students, her patience has, at times, been worn thin by their exuberance and antics, especially the Cutie Mark Crusaders. Still, her students love her back for her patience and gentle nature. It was because of her students that she seemed to briefly pursue Big McIntosh, older brother of Apple Bloom as a romantic partner, after the filly tried to set the two up with a love potion. This however would not last as McIntosh would later love many other mares, ultimately deciding on Sugar Belle as his very-special-somepony.
Given their educational professions, Cheerilee was sometimes shown to be good friends with Twilight Sparkle.[5] Likewise, she was shown to be friendly with Spike and was the first to offer him a present for his birthday, even without knowing it was his birthday.[6]
Cheerilee has been shown to be friends with several other residents of Ponyville.
Abilities
Cheerilee is physically very strong, rivaling her sister in her prowess.[7][1] Cheerilee was said to be a 'natural' wrestler and was trained in the martial art by her sister.

Behind the scenes
- Cheerilee is a multi-generational character whose historic first appearance was in 2006, during the franchises "third generation". In Generation 3 media, Cheerilee was portrayed by Tracey Moore, Kelly Sheridan and Margo Herreid.
- Despite claiming she was 'shy' as a foal, virtually all of her childhood flashbacks portray her as being active and popular, meaning this line is most likely an inconsistency.
- In the fandom, she is sometimes referred to as "School Pony".
