"I thought he was a very good writer, though I'm not sure he always believed it when I told him that…or when anyone else complimented him. I may write something more about the man when I'm a bit less stunned but I definitely consider him one of the good guys and I'm really, really sorry to not have him around anymore." |
Martin "Marty" Pasko (August 4, 1954 - May 10, 2020) was a French Canadian-American comic book and television writer from Montreal, Quebec. Beginning his career in 1973 as a writer under then-editor of DC Comics Julius Schwartz, Pasko wrote for many iconic comic books, such as Superman, Doctor Fate, Wonder Women, Justice League of America and took up the mantle of writing The Saga of the Swamp Thing when Len Wein stepped down from the position. A prolific letter-hack, Pasko was affectionately given the nickname "Pesky" by DC staff.
Beyond comics, Pasko wrote many television series; live-action and animated. Legendary shows such as Roseanne and Batman: The Animated Series, as well as iconic staples of the 80s such as G.I. Joe and Thundarr the Barbarian. Between 1985 and 1989, Pasko had a writing partnership with Rebecca Parr, who in her own right would go on to write for critically acclaimed television series such as Cheers. In 2020, Pasko passed away of "natural causes" after a long struggle with his physical health.
