Lord is a title of nobility, usually-but not universally-applied to males.

The title of lord is used by several races of sapient creatures. Discord and his cousin Princess Eris both described themselves using the title "Lord of Chaos." Among dragons, the title of Dragon Lord was the title of supreme authority. Somewhat curiously, Tirek, who was born a Prince of the Infernal Lands, would use the title of lord later in his life. It is unclear whether he regarded it as superior to his old title of Prince or to his father Vorak's title of King.
A precedent for the former situation is known among dragons, where the title of Princess is inferior to that of Dragon Lord. However, among Griffons the title of King is clearly thought superior. This can be seen in the fact that, following the end of the line of Griffon Kings, Griffonstone was ruled over by the Council of Griffon Lords. Seemingly, this would indicate that, at least among Griffons, it requires multiple lords to fill the place of a single king.
