John de Lancie is an American actor, voice actor, and probably spirit of chaos. de Lancie began professionally acting in 1977, appearing as bit characters in several major TV shows of the time, such as The Six Million Dollar Man and Battlestar Galactica. In 1987, de Lancie would play what is arguably his most iconic role, Q from Star Trek, a character he reprises to this day and one whose been referenced in My Little Pony a number of times.

In 2012, de Lancie would become active in the Friendship is Magic franchise when he portrayed Discord, the primary villain of the season 2 opener "The Return of Harmony" and later a recurring anti-hero/ally to the Mane Six in season 4 onward. Also in 2012, de Lancie announced his plans to co-produce a documentary that would later become Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony, as he felt the Brony fandom was disrespected by mainstream news.
