Canter is a word that is used in the etymology of several things in the My Little Pony series, primarily in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, including:

Why?

Canter is a double-sided pun. On one side, the term 'canter' harkins back to classic fiction and adventure as it can be seen as a reference to The Canterbury Tales, which is mostly seen in My Little Pony Adventures, with a place in Equestria simply named "Canterbury. Additionally, the name is a reference to the canter, a type of movement a horse can do alongside a gallop to achieve maximum speed.
