A pun was a type of word play and joke in which the individual displayed the difference between similar words, or the same words with different meanings. It was often used for comedic effect, or on some cases, was accidental in nature. Though puns were typically lingual, they could also be visual.
When Rainbow Dash was talking about her experiences dressing up as the quadratic equation, she accidentally made a math pun, leading Twilight to fire back with another math pun. Later in the same day, Pinkie Pie made a series of corn puns out of frustration.[1]
