Template talk:Conjecture

So...what's the difference between this and the "AltName" template?--EmeraldBlitz (talk) 04:49, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Conjecture is more if something is named based off its title or relationship to something else. For example, if a character has an unnamed father, then the article would be named "Character's father" and thus be given the conjecture template. AltName is if a character is known either primarily or notably by a fan name or has multiple 'canon' names (like how Derpy and Bon Bon have different names depending on the story or item). Conjecture can also be used for other articles...but perhaps it would be best to simplify the templates into a single "unofficial name" type thing. --Amelia (talk) 13:46, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
That explanation satisfies me, and I wouldn’t mind sticking with both unless you think combining them would be best. I just wasn’t aware of AltName until recently, and didn’t really understand how the two were meant to differ. If nothing else, it might help to modify the wording on the Conjecture template, particularly if we are to use it for more than just the title of a page as you suggest.--EmeraldBlitz (talk) 18:26, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
Reworded the template here to have a more in-depth reason to use it. Thoughts?--Amelia (talk) 18:37, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
Looks good to me!--EmeraldBlitz (talk) 18:52, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
Return to "Conjecture" page.
