Behind the scenes

Production for Rescue at Midnight Castle began either in late 1983 or early 1984, given how many first-draft storyboards are signed 3 January 1984, with the second draft being revised by the 9th. Both drafts were copyrighted 1983.

An abridged version of the plot was written down in a press-kit guide sent to syndicators, dated to 26 March 1984, which was accompanied by information used to sell the pilot to networks. The press-kit emphasized the roles of Tony Randall and Sandy Duncan as being crucial to the shorts success. Another press kit depicted artwork of a winged Spike flying while being ridden by Danny Williams.
