History and commentary

Landforms, in general, have had sort of an odd history in My Little Pony. This is because the first two cartoon series, My Little Pony and Tales were both "sort of" set on Earth, with many real-world places being referenced or visited, such as Rome, Paris, Texas, etc. This meant that some of the Landforms shown were real places, such as Capri, while many were completely fictional, such as the Green Mountain. This problem persisted into Generation 4, with places like Japan, Wales, Canada and Mount Rainier being depicted, but was kept to a lesser extent.

Landforms play an important and often overlooked role in establishing the world of My Little Pony by giving the world a unique look and culture that no other series can truly capture. From the super random geography of Generation 1, to the fairly consistent, yet somehow super inconsistent geography of Generation 4, many Landforms have appeared to give the franchise a specific look and feel. Would the land of Equestria be as magical if Canterlot was not on a mountain? Would Ponyville still have that edge if it didn't border the Everfree Forest?

Despite this, many Landforms tend to appear, only to be retconned almost instantly or forgotten about entirely, such as the Tooma Forest or the mountain of Never Look Back, Walk Tall, Act Fine or the land of angels.
