The Hippogriff Friendship Student's design was first used for an unnamed colt in ''[[Surf and/or Turf]]''. The two are presumably not the same character, as the time period in which the Friendship Student appears in ''[[The Last Problem]]'' is quite a bit later than that of ''Surf and/or Turf''. It seems likely that the Friendship Student is either the child or another close relative of the unnamed colt, or else a naturally occurring doppelganger. Alternatively, it is possible that Hippogriffs mature at a different rate from ponies, though Silverstream's obvious aging over the same time period makes this unlikely.
