A funeral was an organized event in which ponies and other creatures would gather around and mourn the lost of another, whether it be a friend or family member.
As death and mortality are, understandably, rare instances in My Little Pony, very few funerals have actually been displayed. The only known instance appeared in the episode "Hearts and Hooves Day" when the Cutie Mark Crusaders were traveling across Ponyville in order to find a suitable suitor for Cheerilee and in the process, Sweetie Belle came across a funeral.
Interestingly, this funeral appeared in the episode following "Read It and Weep" which depicted a pony who fans have speculated seemed to be suffering from a form of Cancer, as he lacked any coat or mane and was in the Ponyville Hospital.
