At [[Fluttershy's cottage]], {{FIM|Angel Bunny}} brings attention to the giant cloud of black smoke filling the skies, coming from a nearby mountain. {{FIM|Fluttershy}} runs to [[Ponyville]] to try to spread awareness of this, only to get overshadowed by {{FIM|Twilight Sparkle}}, who explains that the giant cloud of smoke is coming from a dragon.
At the [[Golden Oak Library]], the [[Mane Six]] ventures out to encourage the dragon to leave its lair, or else [[Equestria]] will be covered in smoke for the next 100 years. One montage later, they meet back up in [[Ponyville]], ready to head off to the mountain. Fluttershy tries to stay home, but gets completely ignored by Twilight, and {{FIM|Rainbow Dash}} expresses her concerns about Fluttershy slowing everyone down.
At the bottom of the mountain, the Mane Six start to climb the mountain together, but Fluttershy is reluctant to fly up, and {{FIM|Applejack}} has to drag her around the mountain, which takes a very long time. They then come across a small gap, and {{FIM|Pinkie Pie}} sings a song to encourage Fluttershy to jump over it, but she still has to be pushed across. Then, the group enters an avalanche zone, and Fluttershy screams when startled by a leaf, causing an avalanche that nearly buries them all. They then have to climb over the rock pile, and Fluttershy trips, knocking over Applejack and {{FIM|Rarity}}, and Rainbow Dash once again asks Twilight if it was a good idea to bring Fluttershy along.
After that, the Mane Six devise a plan to get the dragon, {{FIM|Razer}}, to leave. Fluttershy refuses to enter the lair, after revealing that she's afraid of dragons. Twilight enters [[the dragon's lair|Razer's lair]] to try to negotiate with him, but the dragon ignores her. Rarity and Pinkie Pie also try to negotiate with the dragon, but fail, and Rainbow Dash decides take a more aggressive approach by kicking the dragon in the nose, causing him to emerge from his cave in anger. He breathes smoke at the Mane Six, pushing them into a rock. Fluttershy then starts to scold the dragon for his aggressive behavior. The dragon, intimidated by Fluttershy's tone, defends himself saying "that rainbow one kicked me." Fluttershy expresses her sorrow, but tells the dragon that he should know better than to take a nap where his snoring could be a health hazard. The dragon then bursts into tears, but Fluttershy calms him down, saying that he just needs to find a new place to sleep.
Back at the library, Twilight writes her friendship report to {{FIM|Princess Celestia}}, telling her the dragon has departed from his lair, and that her adventure taught her to never lose faith in your friends.
