Sophie Campbell is is a prolific comic writer and artist, beginning her career in 2003 with Too Much Hopeless Savages!, published by Oni Press. Campbell is known for her work on various indie titles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and for her run on Jem and the Holograms, nearly all of which has received critical acclaim. She typically writes and illustrates characters who are adolescents or young adult women, of all races, body types, sexual orientations and abilities.

In January 2020, after the series hit its 101st issue, Campbell became the main writer and artist for IDW Publishing's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on-going series, which she currently still holds, and in doing so, has introduced numerous queer characters to the franchise. Campbell's run of Jem is sometimes considered the 'definitive' version of the series, thanks in no short part to her dynamic, bright art and focus on deep characterizations and relationships.

In the late 2010s and early 2020s, Campbell was also known for her search involving a 'lost' piece of Christmas media, a strange animated film known as The Soulmates: The Gift of Light.
