Production and history

The earliest known drafts for My Little Pony animation were complete on January 3, 1984 when the first draft of Rescue at Midnight Castle was submitted. Later that year in March, a press bible was compiled by GBI Public Relations, presumably written by Michelle Passoff and Michele C. Litzky. The special was released as barter syndication, and thus was not aired on any single channel, a format continued for the TV show that the special would spawn.
