Maud was born in Rockville, [[Equestria]] to Cloudy Quartz and Igneous Rock. Like most of her sisters, Maud grew up with a fascination and empathetic connection with rocks, though it manifested differently. Unlike her sister, Limestone, Maud wasn't controlling of rocks, rather she was motherly and kind, arguably showing rocks more love than her family as she was more open with them than she was with anyone else.
At some point, Maud developed a rivalry with Buried Treasure, who apparently stole all of Maud's accomplishments and achievements.<ref name = "FF29">{{C|FF|29|''Rarity & Maud Pie''}}</ref>
