Verko is a crime boss and resident of Klugetown.

History

At some point, Verko established himself as a crime boss in Klugetown, and eventually had his interest attracted by the young Cat lords Capper and Chummer, who had recently taken up residence in the city. Verko had the pair brought before him, annoyed that the pair's thieving had encroached on what he saw as his domain. However, the young cats convinced him to supply them with an airship so they could leave the city, in exchange for the Misfortune Malachite that they carried. Verko agreed, evidently thinking the profit he might make from the artifact worth the expense of granting their request. Unfortunately, Verko's attitude that the pair couldn't make it on the streets persuaded Chummer that friendship was a detriment to self-preservation.

As such, Chummer betrayed both Capper and Verko, giving his friend a fake malachite to deliver to Verko while he attempted to leave in the airship. Angrily Verko ordered Capper to be captured, but Capper attempted to accompany Chummer, only for the altercation to leave the airship in flames with Capper stuck in Klugetown. Verko angrily confronted the young cat, blaming Chummer for costing him both the real malachite and the airship, but Capper rejected Verko's assertion that Chummer was his friend. Verko nevertheless seems to have held Capper responsible for Chummer's treachery, and demanded that Capper settle his debt to him.

Capper's opportunity to do so came when the Mane Six and Spike arrived in Klugetown. Making a show of befriending them, he secretly informed Needy, one of Verko's minions, of their presence. Verko soon arrived at Capper's Safehouse, intending to sell the Ponies and Dragon off to settle Capper's debt to him. However, the confrontation was then interrupted by Tempest Shadow, whom Verko made the mistake of believing was yet another of the Ponies Capper had intended to deliver into his hands. Tempest soon corrected this attitude by unleashing a blast of unstable Unicorn Magic upon him, leaving Verko smoking and stunned; the incident allowed the Mane Six to escape, with Tempest and her forces quickly pursuing them and dragging Capper along.

According to one account, Capper and Captain Celaeno briefly returned to Klugetown before joining forces with the Mane Six to battle the Storm King. Fearing that Verko would pursue Capper with intent to collect on his debt, the pair attempted to pay him off with collected funds only to have Verko betray them. Realizing that all of Klugetown would be endangered if Verko remained in power, they set about uniting the citizens against him before confronting him. Verko resisted, noting that he was supported by the Storm King, but the rebels were just as eager to see the tyrant ousted and soon overcame Verko. However, Verko remained in Klugetown, and after the Storm King's defeat made a reluctant effort to reconcile with his former neighbors with the help of the very ponies he had intended to sell into slavery.

Capper would later recount his early experiences with Verko to Trixie.
