Throughout its 40 year history, My Little Pony as a franchise has had a number of films and specials. New generations have typically, but not always, began with a film to promote the new era of the franchise. The number of films and specials of the franchise is debatable, as many films are released later as mini-series, and vice versa, but anywhere from 17 to roughly 30 My Little Pony have been produced since 1983, not including various documentaries.
