Petunia Petals is an earth pony mare, resident of Hope Hollow and bride-to-be to Sunny Skies. To call her just a resident may be selling her short, as according to Sunny Skies, she's what keeps the town running, and with having so many duties, it's not hard to see why.
History
Petunia Petals is from Hope Hollow and works as the towns chef, historian, hotel manager, librarian, information guide and portrait painter. She primarily works in Hotel Hope as both its receptionist and librarian. Back when the town still had color, she and Sunny Skies would perform cute signs of affection towards one another, showing their love for each other. When the town eventually lost color after Sunny Skies' failure with the Rainbow Generator, Petunia Petals was one of the few ponies who kept an upbeat and cheerful personality.
when she came across the Mane Six, she was friendly-as-can-be, if a bit jittery, in their presence even if their questions about the Rainbow Festival confused her. In the hotel, Petunia displayed all of her professions to the girls, or at least most of them, before Rainbow Dash interrupted her. Despite the rudeness, she didn't once break her friendly disposition and showed them to the room, the Royal Suite. When faced with the horrible room, Rarity struggled to call it "rustic and charming", and despite the hesitation in her voice, Petunia wholeheartedly agreed. Petunia showed them the pop out bed and left them to sleep so they could see the town in the morning.
The next morning, they saw Petunia working at a Flower booth.
Sometime later, Twilight found her in the library and told her of the compliments Sunny Skies told her, much to her delight.
A little later, Petunia came across the Sunny Skies and Twilight Sparkle, causing Sunny Skies to quickly run away as he was writing the "speech" for the Rainbow Festival. Petunia and Twilight discussed the festival. Petunia showed Twilight the pictures of the last festival and how Sunny blamed himself for the disaster. When Twilight lamented that the generator was destroyed, Petunia showed her the remains of the device, letting Twilight borrow it.
The two brought the generator to the towns mechanic, Torque Wrench, to see if she could work on it. Torque agreed and Petunia asked Sunny if she could help him with his "speech", causing the mayor to blush and run away. Petunia sighed and claimed he was being peculiar, but Applejack just thought he always seemed peculiar.
Petunia was present when they were attempting to use the generator, though was disappointed when Twilight's reversal spell didn't fix the problem. Petunia didn't want to tell Sunny Skies, fearing it would break his heart, but Twilight told her that they had to tell him that they failed. Applejack tried to get them to see a flower that still had color,but she was interrupted by Pinkie Pie. When the girls saw the color being added back to objects, such as Kerfuffle's accessories, Twilight and Petunia ran off to the library to examine the photos of the last festival.
When Sunny showed up, they decided to show Sunny the photos of the incident to explain that it wasn't his fault. Petunia called him a doofus for blaming himself, while Twilight showed him the photos and explained that the towns colors were dimmed before the generator was even activated.
Finally as the Rainbow Festival, Petunia saw Sunny give his speech and complimented it by calling it "beautiful", though Sunny admitted that it wasn't the speech he had been writing, leading Petunia to ask what he was writing. Cornered, Sunny had no where else to run and finally showed her what he was writing—a marriage proposal. Petunia accepted the proposal and the two embraced, allowing for their colors, and the colors of the rest of the town, to be once again returned.
Personality
Petunia is an optimistic, friendly, hardworking, intelligent and caring mare who never gave up hope on the ponies she cared about. Though she showed she could grow tired of Sunny's antics, she nonetheless loved him very much and gracefully accepted his marriage proposal. Her work ethic is to be admired, as she worked at least seven jobs without showing much signs of tiredness, though her favorite job appeared to be her role as the towns librarian. She "made sure" her town was very well-read and pride in that fact.
Behind the scenes
Like other residents of Hope Hollow, Petunia Petals spoke with a strong Minnesotan accent.
She was voiced by Kelly Metzger, a Canadian voice and theater actress who also voiced Spitfire, Helia, Gloriosa Daisy and Storybelle in the past.
