Mudbriar was a Earth Pony stallion and the boyfriend of Maud Pie. Characterized by his stoic, but always polite personality, Mudbriar's personality was very similar to Maud Pie's with some key differences.

History

Mudbriar met and fell in love with Maud at a petrified wood show, an exhibit that combined their interests in wood and rock respectively. Judging by his comments regarding Maud to Pinkie Pie, it was likely that aside from shared interest, Mudbriar fell in love with Maud for her caring personality. He first met Pinkie Pie when they both shopped at the baking supply shop, though he greatly annoyed Pinkie when he couldn't decide whether or not he wanted to tell the cashier, Rachel Hay, "goodbye" or "see you later".

Mudbriar met with Pinkie later that same day when Maud introduced him to Pinkie. Once again, his dry personality drove her crazy, especially when he showed her his pet, Twiggy. Pinkie would later vent to Starlight Glimmer about his total lack of personality and bad nature. Starlight however encouraged Pinkie to plan Maud's upcoming surprise party with him, since they both clearly cared about Maud.

However, once again, Mudbriar's nature frustrated Pinkie, even leading her to briefly believe he manipulated Maud into cancelling her surprise party. In great sadness, Pinkie marched off back to the Rockfarm to be with her sisters while both Maud and Mudbriar tried to get her to stop in their own ways. At the farm, Limestone Pie convinced Pinkie that Mudbriar made Maud truly happy, and that's all Pinkie needed to love him back and so she came back to Ponyville and apologized to Mudbriar. Though his stoic personality muddled his delivery, he did accept Pinkie's apologize and accept her as a friend.

At the party, they instead decided to make everyone happy. Pinkie planned a surprise party, but Maud, Mudbriar and Pinkie Pie all stayed up on a hill watching it, while they got to enjoy each other's company in the quiet.

The two continued dating and spent their Hearts and Hooves day together.

Later, he was able to attend his Hearths Warming Eve with Maud at the Rockfarm.

Personality

Mudbriar was fascinated with sticks and wood in general, and very passionate about stick rights. He hated Pinata, as he believed it was "Stick Abuse". Mudbriar was notably more emotional than Maud, smiling more often and showing signs of extreme emotion when he felt like this beloved sticks were being harmed, but was open-minded enough to know that most ponies who abused sticks weren't bad ponies. He was very polite and courteous of others feelings, even if his demeanor made it hard to show. He wanted to make sure he spoke with precision to show just how he felt and wanted others to feel, though his lack of emotion made his efforts rather moot.

Overall, Mudbriar was kind-hearted, friendly and generally just good-natured. Even before he called Pinkie Pie his friend, he seemed to care about her and was sad to see her run away.

Maud was Mudbriar's fillyfriend, and the two cared about each other deeply.

Mudbriar was portrayed by Adam Kirschner. Many fans likened his portrayal to that of Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory.

Trivia

• Mudbriar has an unusual honor of being perhaps the last recurring non-villain character Friendship is Magic character to make an appearance in the IDW Publishing comics. He did not make an appearance until Friendship is Magic #99, only three issues before the finale.
